New onderground kit..post comments

Postby Yanks0114 » Sat Nov 30, 2002 11:52 pm

First of all Eyedea, its good to see you are back on your name :) And second of all, I definately agree. I think its a great sign that onderground cares enough to visit and post on our forums, but i think you should take it a step further. Start taking some of our opinions and make something that will impress us. You have to follow the precendence that toyota has set making the solara a real clean looking car. There are no rough curves or lines. Also the age range and taste varies greatly from an altima or accord. Just try and make a clean looking moderate kit. Sure flashy is nice, but we want practical, long lasting, and something that looks like it was made to fit the car

Solara owners are unique in that we don't want what honda has, we want to look cleaner, be faster, and most of all not be considered rice. Those kits look a little extreme.

If you could, put together some prototypes, or even better just join the forum and feel free to post to get some of our opinions

A kit to be differant need 2 several modification .... thats the law!

This seems easy to do. I piece rear, and one piece front, thats 2 modifications. Plus you could make this kit with a different material, not like theirs. This would not be a copyright infringment!

Make some prototypes, or some photoshoped, or even some drawings of possible designs, post them here and we the Solaraguy community will let you know if we LIKES. :agrue:

5 to 10 buys would not be a problem if you price it like your original "twisty" kit.
Yeah, I've owned 2 Solaras so.............................Image

It's all about customer satisfaction and getting opinions on what the consumer wants. It's not about making a kit to suit ONE person...then shoving it in their face thinking someone's gonna buy it...even if it's dirt cheap. A good business wouldn't work that way since that type of business philosophy will run you into the hole.

My suggestions would be to see what's in the market (for other cars) and see if there is anything us Solara guys like....(like the dude said) get 5 people to agree on a kit, and he could do it!!!

1. I wan't simple sideskirts, i agree with you the twisted flavor adds twist...but my there's pleenty of spices at home, i don't need my car's spicy!
2. replicate the fronts off a trd kit, and make some changes (MINUTE) so that it does protect you from patents.
3. Rather than having two valances in the rear end...have one piece kit (like the TRD COROLLA ALTIS JAPAN kits, the Corolla S has two valances, but the TRD Asia has one pience rear end...that would be sweet!). I'll see if i can find pic's to tell you what I would prefer....

Like this rear bumper extension (rahter than a WHOLE BUMPER) would be great...Also look at the sideskirts...they are straight, but the rear make it looks sleek! I don't fancy the front bumper because have have a "V" shaped grill, so i know it won't look good! If someone is good at photoshop, and can do similar stuff, maybe we can get onderground to do kits what we like!!!...(rahter than hammering the guy...let's use him to help us, to help him...) this way...we have more aftermarker suppor too...
what you all thinK?? Image<BR>

Here's another pic' on corolla Altis rear bumper extentions what i was talking about...Image..i think similar product would look WILD on solara's!

Holy cow!

That Corolla kit looks awesome! If onderground makes that kit for Solara, I would buy it for sure! I love everything about the kit!

Onderground (or whatever the name is)

Postby JMSinMaryland » Thu Dec 12, 2002 2:00 pm

The Solara is a classy car and a beautiful car that doesn't need something so aggressive, the reason the Civics have aggressive kits is the car by itself has nothing inherently beautiful or goodlooking about it. The Civic is the cookiecutter shape of ECONOMY cars that young boys are embarrased to be seen in if they haven't modified it, so cheap ugly bodykits are great for them. Most of us with the Solara have more money to spend and we are a more refined group. Go ahead and bit the bullet like every other body kit company has and make copy's of what we like. Call them whatever you like and change it however you like (i.e. two modifications to existing TRD bodykit could be making the two front pieces 1 entire piece by connecting them in the middle, but not enough that it looks much different, and the 2nd being connecting the rear two pieces. Keep the clean and classy lines of the Solara and don't try to make it something it isn't. It will never be a Supra and therefore a Bomex, Blitz or Abflug kit wouldn't look good on it. Again this car is a classy "luxury" car so look to see what Comptech is doing for the CL or what AMG is doing for the CLK. Something along those lines.
This kit (http://mkiv.com/mkiv_gallery/mkiv_galle ... eamcar.jpg) might look good. If you want your company to be considered an alternative to TRD and want to make something we would like ask us, start a poll, show us some designs, etc. Don't come up with a tacky and ugly bodykit we wouldnt put on our cars if you gave it to us for free and tell us this is what you have to offer us. Want a hint? The Solara owners want an aftermarket front grill, something along the lines of Steve Chungs. If you're able to make bodykits a grill should be nothing. Jon.
