The shorter the better is correct. Try and eliminate all unnecessary slack in the wire

If i am correct then:

Gain is like bass boost, the higher, the more power you will put out
Low Pass Filter is the point at which the amp stops trying to reproduce notes. The way you have it set, your amp will reproduce everything above 50HZ, this is only subs.
High pass is the highest frequency taht the amp will try to reproduce, but you currently have it off.

The connector on the top seems like it would accept 0 gauge. The bottom one is a crimp on that looks to be for 4 gauge or even 8 gauge

OK you want to leave the setting on stereo, as far as the gain goes, right now you have it at 1v, your alpine does supply 4 volts out, so you want to match it up as close as possible, halfway between 8 and 1. You can turn it up slightly but pay close attention to your speakers as they are playing a sweep pattern preferably, or type of music that you will play the most. Now the high pass should be on and you might want to look up the speaker specs as far as what freq range they can play from. Basically the lower you go to 50 the more bass your allowing to filter to your speakers, most common speakers are right around the 80 cycles range, the better the speaker ,the more bass you can allow through. Its pretty straight forward and requires a lot of trail and error, as far as listening to music and the trans. response your speakers. On your head unit make sure your crossovers are off and that your sending a flat signal when testing.
Now on your ring terminals the top one is usually applied on the top of caps and the bottom one is what you will use to ground your system off the grounding block.

I think Gun was referring to the JL audio 300/2 amp. He was saying he's run a lot more than 85w RMS to the MB Quart speakers you're installing, and there's been no problem with their handling. Gun, correct me if I'm wrong.

gunman, does it matter if the rca is going to either the cap or the amp? cuz in the stinger capacitor instructions, it shows it going to the capacitor instead of the amp.

Your diagram is nice follow that, rca's go straight to amp, and you dont need ought wire that would be a bitch to hide and to run through the firewall. I've than 1000 watt RMS system with 4 gauge with no distortion. make sure you pull your fuses out while installing and disconnect your battery. O if you use ought wire you cant use those connectors they are for 4 gauge and smaller.

im using 0 gauge and those connectors are made for 0 gague. they just look small because of the picture. they came with the amp kit. thanks for the tips

btw, what kinda tools do i need for stripping the 0 gauge wire? or any other tools i need for the installation?

razor blade for the wire or industrial bolt cutters, i always soider my connections, you will need a torch to heat that wire up, u dont want it to come loose from that connector in the engine compartment. O by the way i almost forgot if your capacitor is new make sure that you charge it up before you install it. The best way to do it is with a car charger hook the neg and pop the pos terminal and the cap will absorb the charge, if you dont have a car charger use the battery with jumper cables. and dont worry 12 volts cant hurt you.
