What was TRD telling people when they contacted them?

Well perhaps you think you are feeling boost in first because the 1st gear in the auto trannys pull hard to begin with. That's not the S/C working, that's how torquey the 1MZ-FE is. IT's the same way in my 4spd ECTi 95 Avalon XLS. The assistance of the whine doesn't mean it's boosting. It's constantly running, but the EBC negates the boost going to the motor. According to what TRD had told us, the EBC was designed to cut boost in 1st because they were having reliability issues with the auto tranny during their testing. That's the reason why actual sales got pushed back more than a year since the S/C's introduction.

Like Flipside said, there is no boost in first when the EBC is wired up in the A/T format. The best way to check is to have a boost gauge, and my friend with his S/C'd '00 Camry has one, and we noticed time and time again that there is no boost in first gear and between shifts. Before and after the S/C was installed in my Gen4, the first gear always pulled the same way, but sometimes it feels a bit slower due to the added weight. I've sat in both driver's and passenger's seats and first gear is no different. My $0.02.

Boost in first gear

Postby Ragtop George » Thu Oct 03, 2002 12:06 pm

Well, there is no point arguing about it. I do have boost in first, period. I have my big red button wired up now so I can cut the boost manually. There is a HUGE difference in acceleration in first gear when I cut the boost. Obviously either the transmission signals or the EBC have been changed for 2002.

Best regards

George

Good luck with your setup. I doubt the tranny signals have changed. And the EBC should be the same throughout since they were manufactured way before 2002.

intake

Postby MNSolara » Thu Oct 31, 2002 5:36 pm

What are the specs. of your solara? Yr. engine etc.

I looked at the Injen web site for yah and there's an Injen dealer in San Franciso. see below.

Mach III - San Francisco CA - 415-594-0030

tell them you are looking for a cold air intake for your <year> Solara with a <size engine> and ask how much and shipping as well.

The install is easy. I am not car literate for the most part either but I figured it out and it only took me about an hour to do. Just a thought. Installs can be pricey and an Intake is one of the easier ones. Just food for thought.

You can also go to http://www.injen.com/dealers.html#c and look for other dealers that may be closer to you. I do not know your area that well. although my friend 'DJ Who' lives in Sacremento.
