CAI question + CAT converter

CAI question + CAT converter

Postby grnsolara » Tue Aug 17, 2004 1:19 pm

Hello. I've been reading back a lot on both the CAI and about catalytic converters and still came up with a couple questions (even though these are commonly discussed topics).

I modified the Injen short ram intake on my solara by having about an inch and a quarter cut off so there would be more clearance from the battery and inner fender well. I called Under Pressure to see if that would have any effect on the installation if I bought Danny's cold air extension, and the gentleman said he didn't know b/c he had never seen them installed. The cut was made on the filter end of the pipe and I was wondering if anyone knew how much of a difference this would make b/c if it won't work with the CAI, I think I'm goin' back to the stock airbox and K & N.

My other question was regarding catalytic converters. Apparently I have 2 fouled injectors (a Toyota dealership messed them up, but that's another story), so I decided to go ahead and upgrade to supra injectors while I am already paying for the labor. I'm in the process of buying Jim's fuel upgrade kit, I have a 190 lph Walbro pump, and I'm also buying the Split Second FTC. Anything else I need there? And also, another Toyota dealership said in the meantime that the only damage that could be done to my car while I wait for these parts is that I could mess up my catalytic converter. So, as a pre-emptive strike, I was going to do some research on catalytic converters and wondered which one you guys would suggest to complement a JIC exhaust system. THANK YOU ALL very much.

About your first question,

I wonder why you had to cut the short ram intake in the first place? The CAI is designed to work with the Injen, and lots of people on the board have that combo, and nobody have any trouble installing them.

Look for SolaraT's post and go to his webpage, he has a big and detail pictures of the CAI installed.

Hope it helps.

Why on earth would you want to do that? I don't even have a v6 and I did NO cutting.

It fits perfectly for your v6! You messed it up now. Probably going to need a longer connector hose now.

I had originally had the piping cut to fit the heat shield/splash guard more neatly without the corner of the shield rattling against the inner fender well. But I guess that means I'm goin' back to stock air assembly.
