JP Header Installation Q - Urgent help needed

Postby xtychx » Sat Oct 09, 2004 9:27 am

Hey guys,

I bought the JP Headers this week and everything went well at the beginning. I got the old manifolds off, the front header is installed, but I just can't seem to get the rear header into place. I tried going in from the top, through the side past the intake but I can't get it to clear. I know EricSol mentioned going in through the bottom by taking out the rear motor mount and jacking up the motor, so I wanted to try that. However, I could really use some pictures to see how this will work. Where will I jack it up? Where is the bolt for the rear motor mount? Any and all help will be appreciated, I really wanna get this done when I get back from work tonight!

Also, remember I have an auto tranny, so that may have hindered getting the rear one in from the side.

I found it impossible to get to the rear motor mount bolt off with the tools I have. You can get around it by removing the circular plastic covers on the bottom of the brace that the mount is attached to and use a deep socket to get the four nuts off that hold the entire mount down. Then the mount will just go up with the motor. I also had to loosen the tranny bolts because the motor would not go up unless I did it. Dont' forget to remove the strut brace. I don't know if you want to try this but when I was under there it seems the best thing to do is to take off the passenger side half shaft. It just looked like a pain because it is not a one piece unit. Good Luck.

Well guys, amazingly, after hours of work, I finally got it. Basically, I removed the rear motor mount headbolt (major pain), jacked up the car and moved in the header from the top. No room on the bottom with the auto tranny. So, finally, im almost done, gonna finish it up tommorow. Thanks!
