18s rubbing

18s rubbing

Postby adam_minton » Tue Jan 18, 2005 12:03 am

Hello,
I bought some 18s today and put them on and when I put my fat causin in the car the rear rubbed. I also have 3 18s on and one stock 16 on right now. the 16 is on the drivers rear and the passenger rear is rubbing. I couldnt get the 16 inch tires off because the retard who had the car before me put 5 wheel locks on one rim. I dont have the key for it. so.. Ill be taking a trip to the dealer (yea Im bending over for them) I was wondering if there is something I can do to make it quit rubbing. Because Im sure it will still rubb when I put the other 18 on and I put more than one person in.
THanks

learn to post in the correct forums.

as for the rubbing, you will have to shave or roll your rear fenders.

do a search on that.

depending on the tire size you have, i would go with 225/35/18... and what kind of springs do you have in the rear?

I got a set of Gorilla Locks for my rims (came with them) that consisted of 20 locking lugs--that's right, 5 for each. It was a sealed set, not a mistake. I rather like the idea of the extra security, not that it's completely secure anyway, but still. How come you don't have the key?

haha glad you guys thought that was funny.. I was ripping my hair out. sorry for postin in wrong area.. Im new here but its alot like the regal forum so ignorance is no excuse for me. But I took the locking lugs off and put some regular lugs on. I have 245/40/18s on they are dunlap and bridgestone runflats. Now they only rub when I hit a bump or go around a turn like im Mario Andretti, but they are in desperate need of balancing.
I will try to get some pics of my car cuz it is PHAT. The rims are antera. I got them off of ebay and went to chicago to pick them up yesterday. I didnt have the key for the wheel locks because I just bought the car like a month ago and it didnt come with it. But I had a local tire company put the other tire on and take the wheel locks off and I had to get 5 new lugs at the toyota dealership. That was 32.00 for just the lugnuts. I thought they were going to be made of titanium but they were only steel haha

18s rubbing

You can buy an inexpensive special socket that can remove the wheel locks, although it will scratch them up a little. When I stripped my key, I had to use one to remove the wheel locks. Ended up buying new ones after removing the old ones.

yeah your tires are too large. Getting your fenders rolled will probably help quite a bit and should get rid of some of the rubbing, but thsoe are some big tires. I have 235/235/18 with Eibach springs, with rolled fenders, and mine really only rub when i hit a hard bump going fast, but nothing too bad. Make sure you get your fenders rolled at a good place, cause thats something that ca n easily be messed up.
