"I have been doing a little R&D on a simple yet effective torque rod for the SuperSolara. I was wondering if anyone else has been working on this. I know there has been some work done on firmer motor mounts by Eric; though these are very effective at controling engine movement, they also tend to be noisy and harsh.
You may have noticed a small shock absorber mounted between the transmission and lower crossmember just to the driver's side of the header. The function of this is to help control engine twisting during harsh accelleration. I have replaced this shock unit with a Heim joint and steel threaded rod on my car. I was concerned about the possibility of noise and vibration, however, there is none of that. The motor mounts still make for a quiet ride, but engine twist has been eliminated and transient response is improved. It is easier now to break the tires loose during quick starts. It is a do it yourself improvement worth the low cost. This would especially benefit manual transmission applications.
All you need is a 10mm male Heim joint and a 9" piece of 10mm threaded rod, and a few 10mm nuts. You can use poly shock bushings for a firmer feel. Installation shouldn't take more than 1/2 hour."
