Other then HID, what direct bulb replacement will provide the brightest headlights on a 2000 Solara? Please provide the number and type.

Dawgz, why such a cynical response? Its a fair question IMO

Here's the link for the Sylvania page. It details their products and I know somewhere it has a chart comparing lumen output.

I know thats not the total answer to your question, but its a start. I like the silverstars but I feel like their lifespan is just a little too short for the price. I'm also curious as to what others use.

I also like the Silverstars. Prior to them, I had the Cool Blues. Those were allright, just more blue tint. The Silverstars are a nice white and pretty bright. I still get flashed because people think I got my brights on. :-?

Same here. People always flash me too with my silverstars. I have them in both the headlights and the fogs for my solara and camry and they work great. Bought them at walmart for a pretty decent deal.

I've got the PIAA Japan Spark 4900 bulbs . . . they are the H4 type. These are rated at 4900K, thus the name . . . which are a BRIGHT white with a slight hue of blue. I'd say they look real similar to Alkimo's PIAA bulbs. PIAAs are expensive, but from my experience they are great quality bulbs.

ps. they make other "kelvin" ratings for PIAA as well if you wanted to know . . .

I have silverstars on my solara and they burned out in less than a few months, and i had to get a new pair. Now another one has burned out and im thinking about going back to stock bulbs. Why is this happening?

You might have water getting into the connection or a wire partially stripped on the harness or connector. This is what happened to my camry and I just went to the salvage yard, picked up a new connector, and soldered it on to the stock headlight wires with heat-shrink wrap, so it was definitely secure. Also be sure not to touch the bulb with your bare fingers, because the oils in your skin will damage the bulb and may cause them to burn out faster.

I don't know why y'all are knocking the Silverstars; I've had them in my Solara since I got it in August and I've never had a problem with them burning out. I also had them in my old Camry, and they've been in that car for a good two years now... no problem. Much clearer and brighter than standard headlights, and they're a lot cheaper than going HID. Good compromise if you ask me.

If you look at that chart, it will show you the average life hours of all these different kinds of bulbs for 9003

Silverstars and Xtravisions are rated for 150 hours for the low beam on 9003. (If you drive an hour to work each day, and an hour back, it wont last you 4 months). They are not mean to last that long, but provide the most brightness. If you want bulbs that last longer, The Sylvania LL's last 800 hours, but not as bright. (I think these are the OEM bulbs)

I think no matter what bulbs you get, so long as your sticking with standard halogen bulbs, you'll have to trade off brightness for longevity, because the brighter it burns, the faster it goes out.
