Hi guys, im kinda new to cars/this forum and i just got a '99 solara but my headlights are fogged up. I wanna replace em with HID's. But everytime i do a search i just get totally lost. I guess what i pretty much wanna do is get really bright lights (similar to IS300's) i also would like to get the yellow fog light bulbs. What exactly do i need to get? I need to replace my entire headlights though, because the fogging, and i figured i might as well replace em with HIDs. How much will it cost me to completely change my headlights and get the yellow fogs? Thanks in advance guys.

That link should help your HID need and for the fogging up just get some silicone and re-seal it again.

The housing stays stock when you make the move to HIDs. Theres currently no aftermarket headlights for the Solara, so the only way to fix the fogging (if its on the inside) is to either buy another headlight, new or used, possibly off ebay, or to take them off, open them up, clean them, and reseal them.

Usually toyota quality with the headlights is pretty good, but the foglights arent so good. Ive hit a couple leaking foglights but never a leaking headlight.

Is the fog on the inside or outside? If its on the outside, look at the auto store for something called plexiglass and glass cleaner. Its in a small white bottle with a blue label. That stuff works really well. If its on the inside, I would suggest getting another one off ebay. opening them and resealing them isnt the easiest job, (to open them, you need to stick them in the oven..., and when resealing, you cant miss a spot or itll just be leaking again).

For yellow fogs, you have three choices, easiest to hardest.

1) Get yellow bulbs. The yellow bulb itself never looks too yellow, but the beam does.

2) Get some yellow tint and lay it on top of the foglight. If you do this, itll look yellow even when its not on. Not sure how the fogs look when theyre on, havent doneit yet.

3) Get the lexus capsules. They sell them at HIDTech. Note that youll also have to bake your foglights to install these. I know Sweedt6 used to make these as a service, but I'm not sure if he does anymore. (He did mine, highly recommended if he still makes em.) Lexus's have smaller foglights than us, so its a more concentrated pattern, but otherwise, this will be just like the Lexus style.

thanks alot bro. I think you just saved me about $250. I was so ready to buy new headlights, but i got that cleaner stuff you recomended ($7.52) , and well...they look as good as new. Thanks alot. Now i can possibly get an HID kit, or intake, or exhaust.. we shall see. Anyways, thanks so much.

Oh forgot one thing. If i do get the yellow bulbs for the fogs, will it be brighter than the current fogs? And if they will be brighter, can i get the yellow tint as well as the bulbs? If not, will the yellow tint lessen the brightness of the fogs? Thanks.

Yellow bulbs have tinted glass. Yellow tint has that tinted film, and the yellow capules are also tinted yellow. No matter what avenue u go, the tint will lessen the brightness of the light - A tint is made to block light or certain wavelengths of light and can never make a light brighter. Its not that bad though, since bulbs are naturally yellowish white.
