Rotors replacement tips

Postby Russian Mafia » Thu May 19, 2005 5:33 am

Hello guys,

I just got new Brembo rotors and new pads. I'm going to replace them myself. Since this will be my first time doing that, i was wondering if you have any tips that i should consider. I gonna follow Haynes manual. But could you share if you have had any problems that are not covered in the book and how you resolved them.

Another thing is that one of the rotors is slightly scratched, any suggestions?

I'm new to all of this so any help will be greatly apreciated.

Thanks

This site has a nice little write-up on doing the job......even though the pics are black&white, there are closeups of it.......pretty straight forward.

Just make sure you have a large C-clamp and a peice of wood. The actual labor part isnt that hard.

So i replaced rotors and pads. Took me about 3 hours cuz i got stuck on last wheel. Could not unscrew one of the bolts that holds torque plate in the rear. Took me sometime to realize that i'm not strong enough and to find something to extend handle of the wrench.

Also i was not sure if I should have put old shims (not sure if i spelled it right, the ones that go in with pads) back in, cuz they did not fit. Caliper is not wide enough, but pads had something similar on them already, so i left old ones out.

In the beginning i had some noise even though i was not breaking, but after few hard breaks noise was gone.

Unfortunately, i did not really need to replace pads cuz they were only half way gone, but breking permormance improved. Now i dont have to push the pedal all the way down to stop quickly. And when i do that now, i hear my tires, which never happend before no matter how hard i would break.

I was going to take pics and post a tutorial, but after following haynes manual i realized that it's a breeze if you put your mind into it, and do everything consistenly and carefully. I had zero expirience, but with right tools it was pretty easy.
