Thinking about a short shifter

I was thinking and look for a TWM or TRD shortshifter, but my buddy suggessted any generic shortshifter will do since he doesn't have a brand name shotshifter for his subaru. Does it work?

i'm pretty sure it's gotta be application specific...

trd and twm are the only suppliers for the solara...

Think no more, do. A few of my VW buddies with short shifters have complemented the feel and throw of my shifter.

I have had both the TRD and TWM shifters, and the TWM has a much shorter throw. In terms of "generic" VS. "Brand Name" every shifter is different because every car is different and even cars that are the same can have different transmissions, so the shifter for each is different. The TWM is pretty cheap and works well, just make sure you use a low shift knob, other wise you defeat the purpose of installing the short shifter.
Go with the TWM.

i have the trd one and may eventually switch to a twm just because the trd one sits almost as high as the stock one...

either way, a short shifter is good bang for the buck...
