Drag Racing and suspension setups

Postby SC V6 » Sun Sep 11, 2005 5:55 pm

I am wondering who has all upgraded their suspension to coilovers and how much they like it, and what the advantages it has, for drag racing.. I know that the coilovers are a huge improvement for auto crossing.. but I am curious about for drag racing and launching.. I get wheel hop occasionally.. and I have a stock suspension, and im looking for a setup that will enable me better launches as well as cornering
Parting out my car!!! great upgrades for sale!

with coilover you are able to adjust the height and how stiff you want your car to handle.

if ur interested in getting coilovers. i might be selling my jic alt-a2 the 16-way adjustable.

suspension plays a big role.

however if you want some final touches, go for urethane bushings.

NOOOOOOOOOOOOO sniff sniff hahaha

Is it true leaving it on stiffer setting or leaving it on the low drop setting kills the coilovers faster?

it does... since the coilovers are working so hard for no reasons and taking abuse on daily driven roads, one huge dip or sudden bump could make them blow. The stiffer settings should be only used for smooth roads where elevation changes are not so sudden while soft settings are to give the suspension more of a free travel.

The FLT-A2 can carry some baggage and is impossible to bottom out, however any strut can only take on so much in a period of time.

well, anyone can beat on a strut/shock as much as they want but eventually, anything with pressure or moving parts will wear out or blow if given the right amount of force or sudden movement. The TIEN or JIC coilovers are just seen as bulletproof by many since they can be serviced for new oil and brand new internal seals/piston ring etc, while compared to a tokico shock, it would have to be replaced. Personally, I would keep it on the softest to lessen the chance of blowing and extend the life of the suspension.

Setting it lower doesn't wear it out faster (depending on the brand and how height adjustment is accomplished). Increasing the dampening DOES wear them out faster. It is harder on the valves in the struts. -JoeB
