Finally decided on the rims im gong to buy for my car

Now that im back on full time at my COOP job I can start saving up money for my rims while still paying the bills. Anyway I decided to go with the ASA AR1's. Im going to get them from tirerack. I figure they would be a good wheel since BBS owns ASA and it combines two looks i love. Mesh wheels and black wheels with the polished lip. And they only cost $219 a wheel. I think it will look pretty good even though I think one person told me they didnt think black rims would look good with my color car.

Pretty much the whole point of this post is to see what you guys think and i wanted to make sure that I can fit 18x8 rims with 225/45/18 tires without any rubbing or rolling of the fenders. The offset is +35mm. I want to know this before i buy them. Here is a link to the website with the specs and pictures:

Also here is pic if you dont feel like going to the link

Hope you like! And hopefully my car will be sitting on them by christmas!

Solorange,

Very nice choice. Show us some pics when you get them on your ride.

Nice wheels! I believe the optimum offset would be +40. But, with 225 you may be ok. I don't know about the rears, you may have to roll the fenders, since the +35 will sit farther outward. But, I'm sure someone else will chime in and let you know for sure.

Tire Rack does a good job, that's the only place I buy tires.

Call Shaun ext. 661, he is a buddy of mine, he will like your choice.

Hey thanks guys for the comments, I cant wait till i have the money to place the order! Astro I hope I dont have to roll the rear fenders. If i had to make some sort of modification do you think i could find some wheel shop to mill 5mm off to make it a +40 offset? Or do you think the rim can come with different offsets?

I like the wheels but not the optimum size for a Solara. Being 8" wide and only +35 offset, they are probably going to stick out of the fenders.

I ordered those exact wheels about a month or two ago. I got a call the next day from a tirerack guy saying they might rub my fenders.

I asked about other offsets, and the guy said there was a +40 coming later that week, and he could get me those. I ended up canceling my order since I decided to wait til next year to get them..

Alls im saying is expect a phone call soon. If you get them in +35, plan to get you fenders rolled. Obviously id be curious how theyd look on a solara. I think I woulda been the first Solara with AR1s if I didnt cancel my order.

I dont think you can change the offset from the site..youll have to phone in the order. If you talk to a rep and he doesnt know what your talking about, i can give you the ext of the guy i talked to. I'm sure he'd be happy to hear from you since my cancel screwed him out of his commission.

Also, BBS does not own ASA...ASA licenses BBS's casting technology and uses it in thier wheels.

^ How long ago did you do this cause im wondering if a 40 offset would be out yet. If this is the case i may not order them either.

Do you think 18x7.5 would work better with a +38mm offset? This size AR1 only comes in silver with the machined lip and I do like them but i like the black better. I would go with these if i have too, but i really want a black rim.

Here is a picture and a link to the website.

Get the black. The silver looks weird for some reason. I saw them on a few cars, and outside of BMWs, they look off..not sure why. Doesnt help that I cant find the black ASAs on many cars either, except one on a 05 mustang.

I ordered on 8/19. I canceled the order on 8/24. They were supposta be in in a week from when I canceled, so they should be in already.

They guys name is Riley Haussman I think.
I think I still might have his ext at work, I can check tomorrow. You can just call the tire rack and ask for him, and reference my order number on the phone if you wanna try and refresh his memory (Order 1191577)

Issue is that it MAY rub the fenders in the back at a +35 offset. It also MAY rub the strut at +40 offset (Tirerack doesnt think so, by my old 18x8 +40s were a slightly touching the stock struts). Best bet is to get a +40 offset and, if it does rub the strut, get some 2mm spacers to push the back out to +38, OR you can get the +35 and just get your fenders lips rolled or shaved. You can decrease offset easy with spacers, but you cant really increase it.

In any case, they will not stick out, we are talking just a 5mm increase in how much it sticks out vs the +40, its just that +35 may just rub that fender lip in the rear. I also think rear fender lip rubbing is only an issue on dropped rides, or people with alot of crap in the trunk, so if your not dropped, you might still be able to ride on +35s with no issue

Well this is the way i think about it. My car is lowered but it still seems to sit high enough were it wouldnt rub. And when the wheel goes up it cambers in so the top of the wheel will angle inwards which may clear it. I was hoping that someone has had this size and had no problems. And I think the stock wheels sit too far inside the car as it is so outwards should be better. Thanks for all your referances ill have to call them to make sure. And find out if they have a 40 offset in yet.

Also do you think a 7.5 with a +38mm offset will work? Im just curious.
