Stock OEM Alum 15 vs My wheels

Some crucial things in my sights for my Solara was to find ways to strengthen its turning by suspension upgrades and engine power for a dinky I4 auto. Well some keys is freeing up some weight and it turn out my selection for the right wheel set seems to have paid off. After weighing my old Toyota 15's with Dunlop SP4000? tires. The weight on my scale was close to 36-38lbs. 144lbs-152lbs of weight on the wheel base of our stock Solaras.

These are the alum alloy type wheels now. I didn't get a chance to weigh my new tire set but hopefully I can grab some specs on them later. Enkei RS+M's 18x7.5 48+ w/Falken 235/40's. Shop put on 5mm spacers but forgot if it was for the rear or front. So far the car felt lighter as the car shifted and pulled faster on stop n go's. Definately spent my money well on these Enkei's. Truely light especially when the sales guy let me pick up one to inspect the wheel during the installation day.

Very delighted as I can't keep my smiling grin off still. Maybe if i were crazier, a cf hood to lower the weight of our pigfat solara more would be my last and final mod on.

Pics Later Hopefully end of November i'll get them posted.

Even if its lighter overall, it should still be slower, unless it ALOT lighter. Its about how far the weight is from the hub (Moment of inertia), and most of the weight of a wheel is concetrated on the edge where the wheel meets the tire.

If your going from 15s to 18s, then the 18s need to weigh about 20% less to have the same rotational resistance. I'm oversimplifying, I'm assuming that 100% of the weight is on the edge of the rim where it meets the tire (makes the math easier) and your going from a stop. I think it might be different if your already rolling.

It might FEEL faster due to better road-to-driver translation due to low pro tires, but it might not actually be faster.

BTW, spacers were for the rear 7.5" wide at +48 will rub the back strut bad if its not spaced.

I'm on Tein SS coilovers btw. :) the 5mm spacers i think were for the rear. Didn't notice until I came home after work to look at the reciept. I'll have to pics soon. My car gets dirty to fast to get a clean shot since out here in AZ, too much dust flying around and also I'm kinda near the outskirts kinda where theres more lil critters crawling around. So year the dirt n grim got to my car quickly.
