Can anyone tell me if the imitation oem spoiler with 3rd brake light is any good. What are the differences, why so cheap?

One thing for sure is the lack of "Genuine Toyota Parts" on the box. From the pix I've seen it looks just like the real one. I've even thought about getting one due to the fact I dont have one on my 99 SE. But you know, the more I see Solara's with the spoiler the more I like mine without the spoiler. I usually dont drive fast  where the spoiler would help in the handling at speed anyway. I did want one at first its true.
I'm glad I didnt buy one.

i agree, i really like the look without a spoiler too (probably because 99% of solaras have one), and i doubt it helps much at speed anyways

At high speeds our spoiler is really useless. Unless you plan to go 135 constantly a spoiler isn't necessary, its just cosmetic.

I like the spoiler. It's totally for the looks because our cars are FWD and doesn't require a rear push-down at high speeds. We're basically just dragging our rear wheels anyway.

I've seen a few Solara's here in the Springs w/o the spoiler and think it looks better than with it. I've thought on and off whether I should take it off, or if it's even possible. I haven't looked at it too closely but it looks like there's two holes in the trunk where the spoiler meets it. Can I take the spoiler off w/o there being holes there? Or can I not do this unless I get a new trunk? Which I definitely won't do...

I don't know for sure if the OEM replica spoiler is any good or not, but it looks fine to me. If you buy it and don't like it, you could always just turn around and sell it on ebay.

About the look of the spoiler, I think the spolier enhances the look of the car, and makes it look more substantial/sophisticated. Without the spoiler, I think the Solara looks too basic (maybe cheap?), and also like its missing something.

You'd need to go to a body shop to fill in the holes if you decide that you want to DISMOUNT your spoiler. Cost for that alone (including paint+etc) would run you easy 250+. So its not as easy as removing emblems!
