Tail Light Baking

Tail Light Baking

Thought that would get your attention. I need help. I’ve read the tutorial on making clear corners and tried it on my taillights. Well here’s the result. I want to separate the colored lens from the black backing for a LED experiment. Anyone have any ideas? I’ve tried temperatures from 150 to 400 (that’s how it melted)

And no, I didn't cook it on the George Forman Grill.

Try getting yourself a heat gun and using that instead of baking the entire tail light.

Heat gun is about $20 - $40 depending on what is included with it or built into it.

I know taillights are bakable, since someone here baked some 02-03s to get the orange reflector out.

However, in baking, your supposed to preheat the oven to a certain temp and put them in for a few seconds and take em back out. Looks like you cooked em for a minute or more.

may seem expensive, or not depending where you get it, but I would advise first getting spare tail lights, that way, since you are trying an experiment with LEDs you could break off the lens and without it being a big deal. I too have considered attempting to make true LED tail lights but it's something I have to save for the summer. Check salvage yards first always cheaper, but by now everyone knows that.:)

P.S. Your place is a MESS

For developing the LEDs you want to try and preserve the backing since that's where the LEDs will be, on the inside is the LEDs themselves and on the outside will be the boards and electrical, its going to take some work to develop something like this just a friendly heads up on the project, and good luck.

I believe you should have asked for those "rare". I think you may have gotten "well done". Send those things back to the chef

You brought a smile to my face. :P
I have one more spare tail light so I'm going to try the heat gun idea. When I get this project moving foward it will be sweet.
