What brake upgrades are available for the I4 w/a disc/drum combo? WIll the available upgrades for the six-cylinder fit the I4? I want to increase the braking performance of my vehicle. I was thinkng slotted front rotors w/upgraded pads and upgrading the pads in the rear.

I think, but im not completely sure that the front discs on the v6 and i4 are the same. If thats the case then yes you could upgrade them. Also there are drum upgrades available. I'll check with a few companies to see if they make any

i don't think slotting the rotors would help much, you're better off with just upgraded pads

You're correct. Slotted or xdrilled rotors do not decrease stopping distance. They actually increase it a little. Braking surface on the rotor is decreased when you decrease surface area, but the ability to dissapate heat is greatly increased. When your pads and rotors get too warm they start to fade, and this is when xdrilled or slotted really help. Also xdrilled and slotted look nice too :D Pads are the way to go if you want to increase stopping power

True as far as it goes, however cross drilled rotors, while they do dissapate heat more quickly than standard rotors, the area around the drill holes becomes superheated during periods of heavy braking. This can lead to cracking of the rotor. The lack of fade, unless you're SC'd and autocrossing, won't be a big deal.

BTW, cross drilled/slotted discs cause your pads to wear out faster than normal.
