Before I shoot, I just want to let everyone know its a royal pain to search by numbers. I got results all over the place when searching 235/40/18, most with nothing to do about tires.

Now for the question...Anyone have this exact, or close to this setup?

Im debating on going 235/40/18, instead of the more typical 225/40/18, since it will closer to stock diameter, and will give me a little more rubber to ride on. Any issues? If so, are you dropped?

Ive run 225/40/18 @ +40 before and I think another 5mm of section width on the inside would have me rubbing the struts, but I'm not sure.

I also have two 2MM spacers so i can push the rears out to +38 if necessary incase i get strut clearance issues.

Thanks.

From my own experience either an 18x7.5 with 45mm offset or 18x8 with a 40mm offset. I don't think the extra 10mm wide is going to make a big difference in fitment. I think the bigger issue is selection of tires and prices of tires is a world of difference apart from a 225/40 18. Jon.

If you have 18x8 +40 then you would be okay with a 235/40/18

Im not saying you cant run 235 width but the wider you go the more sensitive your steering will be to the road deformaties.

I just did a little research.

For some tires, I see they cost ALOT more in 235/40/18, or are not available. However, the specific tires I'm looking at happen to be available in 235/40/18 and would cost me only 11 bucks more per corner than the 225/40/18s, which isnt much if they can fit.

Is anyone acutally running 18x8 w/ 235/40/18 @ any offset, dropped, undropped, rolled, or unrolled?

I have 18x8 w/ 225/40/18 at 40 offset and had to shave the rear fenders about 1/3 inch to quit rubbing...the tire misses the strut by about 1/8 inch. Hope this helps.

Compare the actual width of the footprint. The same size tires may have wider or narrower footprints, thus causing rubbing when you didnt expect it. My Falkens had no rubbing issues, but when I switched to the Kuhmos, same size but wider footprint, they rubbed.

Thats some good info there.

Sounds like its a crapshoot depending on which exact tires you get, so even the same tire size with the same wheel size with the same offset can rub with different brands. I was planning on getting Generals.

Since I plan to order these online and returns will be a PITA, I'll stick with the tried and true 225/40/18.

Good choice there. if you were going to a local tire shop I would test the 235, but since your doing the online deal you are prob making the better decision going a lil cheaper and getting gauranteed fitment.

sorry to ask a stupid question, but what is offset and how do you adjust it? i am considering 235 width tires on my 18x8s, so i may need to make some adjustments. right now im running 225s and i only have problems with rubbing when there are 3 ppl in the back and i take sharp turns.

what is the best way to shave/roll the fenders if necessary?

Offset is not adjustable since its a measurement from the rims. But basically its the measurement of how far inward/outward the rim will sit in the wheel well. If it sits too much inward, you can buy spacers to push the rim outward a bit

Have a shop do the rolling/cutting... Id preferably go with cutting since its a little cleaner.

All you need to shave the rear fenders is a dremel tool, about 25 cutting blades, and A LOT of patience.

Took me about 3 hours total for both rear fenders. Most of the time was spent replacing cutting blades. This includes sanding and repainting the trimmed area.

Overall, not too difficult.

i heard u can just take a bat and roll them in a bit....

25 blades? is that cuz they go dull? what if i just use a sander or something and then i wont have to repaint...

nah, its just cause they wear down so fast. keep in mind, you are cutting through 2 layers of sheet metal which is no easy task. If you're gonna roll them, you will need at least one other person to help you.

I would suggest shaving over sanding or rolling. You will get an even cut and the overall look will be cleaner than the baseball bat method. Just sanding....nearly impossible on these fenders.

There is a website that loans out a fender roller too, but it isn't cheap.
