I'll be replacing my brand new yellow top battery in the trunk with this battery.

Image

PC680MJT
Small 680 cranking amp battery with metal jacket and SAE automotive terminals.

Also available without the metal jacket for low temperature applications.
Battery measures 3.11" wide x 7.27" long x 6.67" tall with the metal jacket and weighs 15.4 pounds.

Recognize that the reserve rating is small, so storage time with computer draw can discharge the battery in a few weeks. Ideal for Street Rods up to 5.7 liter V-8. Can be mounted in the glove box flat on its back - only 3 1/8 inch high.

Excellent starting battery where high reserve capacity is not required.
Great lightweight racing battery for shedding extra pounds.
Can be mounted upright or flat.

That's awesome, I didn't even know they made those. So essentially I could mount that in the engine bay somewhere and use it to start and use my Optima Yellow for the electronics?

Why?

Postby ProRally Codriver » Sat Jul 15, 2006 10:13 pm

You doing thinking its a performance upgrade or you just for something to do. Most of the weight loss by swapping to a lighter weight battery is going to be negated by the weight of the lengthy cable if you install in trunk. For a powerful FWD, its better for traction to keep the weight over the front wheels which provide the power, steering and most braking.

In my cars I've relocated my battery to trunk (excluding mid-engine cars), its been to create space in engine compartment to add another engine component or for better access to work on/maintain engine.

If you do bother to install in trunk, don't forget to also add a battery cut-off switch in reach of driver when you run cable thru passenger compartment.

Will you ever stop with the mods? Ha ha.
Is your car running yet? After that episode with Stoid, I'm hoping your car turns out ok. How are you handling that?

I've done the same to make room for a cold air intake. I just haven't added it yet.
Why the need for a cut-off? Its never cut-off in the engine compartment. Why cut it off in the trunk?

In the passenger compartment as a driver operated kill-all switch.

Seeing as Greg's car hasn't been on a track yet, no need to hack a hole thru bodywork. If you do go to track, and have battery mounted in non-stock location, most sanctioning body's require a cut-off switch accessable to track workers.

Since they aren't available in carbon-fiber or even fake carbon-fiber yet, doubt Greg would want one hanging outside his car. :P

Space. No room under the hood and I need to unclutter the trunk. The standard battery box will be a point reduction at the car shows.

I don't care about the track. I've put to much money in this car to waste it at the track. I'm building the car for me.
