Air Filter

Air Filter

Postby SirMacDaddy » Sun Jul 16, 2006 12:50 pm

So at work the other day, i was talking to one of my co- workers and he has a 94 mr2. We were talking about air filters and he said that he took out the oem box filter and just replaced the whole thing with a cone filter.
I was wondering what the benifits, if any, there are if someone were to do it with a solara or if it is possible.

Sounds like you're talking about a short-ram air intake?

There aren't many benefits except for a better look, cool sound, and possible high end gains

The negatives are: you'll be sucking in warm air from the engine bay, you may run lean, and its expensive

The guy said that he had it at the end of his normal intake. All he did was take out the box and switch it.....are we still talking about the same thing?

Not completely sure what you're talking about but usually you put a cone filter on a short ram air intake or a cold air intake

A SRI pulls air from inside the engine bay, pretty much where the factory intake was

A CAI pulls air from the wheel well or low on the front grill

no, i think he's just talking about putting an aftermarket filter on the OEM intake, which is usually seen on GM cars (i think...). but i don't think it's possible with our set-up.

i think either k&n drop in filter

or he has the idea that the stock box with the cone filter INSIDE the box
The ONE & ONLY Fully Loaded 2006 X Avalon Limited with Body Kit in CA = Special Limited Edition + First 2GR-FE rebored the throttle body (i think...)

I talked to him again today and went out to go look at his car. He just removed the box, just that and left the 'pipe' material there and put a conefilter at the end of it. It looks like the picture posted above, if that black pipeing is stock and was connected to the box filter
