Catalyst System Efficiency Problem.....
My check engine light came on yesterday and i went to autozone today to check it out.... i read on the reader that the code is P0420 and it means Catalyst System Efficiency Below Threshold. does that mean i need a new catalyst converter? and if so i went to the dealer to ask about its price and that crap is about 1200 dollars..... so if anyone knows where i can get a good after market one that'd be very helpful. its for a 5sfe. Thanks

i just fixed my friend car with the same code on his 2000 5sfe camry (po420)his camry wouldn't pass smog, if you clear the code and replace the exhaust manifold, you have to drive a certain amount of miles other wise the smog station computer will read not ready. i think i still got one more good manifold. interested.

yeah its used, it off my 2001 camry that i had leased, so it only got 46k miles on it, i pull it off and swap it with my 1999 camry when i had a i4 in there. i have to look for it, i got lots of parts left over from when did my v6 swap. when i find it i let you know, i can see when i have time to replace for you to.

Well my buddy's car showed this code after a full exhaust job including high flow cat.

So I took 2 sparkplug anti fowlers 18 mm and help brand and drilled ONE out with a 1/2 inch drill bit and threaded the O2 sensor in then put the other anti fowler on the end so I had 2 in a row only ONE drilled out. Then put it in the piping. Ta da no problem but that was with a high flow cat.
