SUSPENSION ?????'s HELP!

SUSPENSION ?????'s HELP!

Postby Chilltownnj » Thu Nov 16, 2006 10:18 am

Ok Here we go,

I have a 4 cyl. solara 2002. I've been reading up for new suspension to go with my new 20" rims. I hear that the tein Super Street Coilovers is a great way to go. My problem is that i've been told by tein that they dont make the SS coilovers to fit the 4cyl solara's in that year. Only the 6 cyl solaras and the 4cyl solara convertable. This totally sucks as my suspension is fading fast in my rears and are now rubbing whenever I am driving over a bump or even when i pull off, when i have more than like 10$ gas. Is it at all possible for the 6cyl coilover models to fit the 4cyl? or give me another good alternative. Also with 20" rims what would be best settings height and dampning power to set it for let's say, a town who's streets arent the greatest. Potholes here and there? I dont plan to hit the track but i dont want too stiff a ride, i want to float a bit!

Oh yeah and if they can fit, is it in theory or have u actually applied or seen this applied?

the coilover for the V6 model should fit fine in your car, the only difference between the those two car models are the engines.

The SS fits fine. The spring rate for the front is designed for the V6 weight, but it's not a huge difference so it'll be ok.

I can get them at a good price, so PM me =P

20's on a gen1.5, that's insane. I too would like to see that.

I remember when I put 18's on my gen1 4cylinder, it felt great driving in curvy roads, but man was I slow.

Thanks for the info, ok i will have to stop dealing with this shop because why should the customer have to do so much research on something that they couldve researched for me if they wanted my money. Ok i went into the shop today to tell them that i was told that the Super Street coilovers would fit the v4 model as well, after being warned for about a half hour of the possible problems associated with if they didnt fit correctly and how i wouldnt get my money back for them once they started the work. Also they told me that there was a 400 dollar installation charge... to me that seems very steep :( but i may be wrong. So i left them 150$ deposit for the 1399+tax shocks, *note* i have the money but i never like leaving that much money on items that havent gotten to me yet. And i said that i wasnt gonna get the work done in the shop but i would just let them order it. OK after they finished reprogramming my alarm, (the damn thing just stopped working) the guy comes to me and says that he needs at least half down for the shocks!? what! i only left a hundred dollars down for my 2000$ rims! lol and they came in two days and i paid them in full! from same shop! geez give me a break... i figure because i wasnt getting them installed there they were gonna give me a hard time... So now i have found another tein dealership shop that will install for 225 and they are reputable.

Oh yeah, excuse the damage, had a big accident coming from florida this summer. Was at a party the night b4 i left and didnt manage to get any sleep b4 i left for home. Jersey city NJ, a hop skip and jump from New York City. Needless to say a supposed 18hour drive and no sleep = Bad Business. Dozed off for a split second about 30mins from my aunts house in North Carolina which was where i was going to get some zzz's at b4 i continued on. Hit a divider and Tore my whole driver side up! spinned around 3 times across the highway into a yellow waterfilled road cones and into the dirt... :( the crazy thing about it was, oh yeah after punching my windshield 2 times in frustration and cracking it also, i got out took a breather and got back in and started the car up with no hesitation or problems. VERY VERY TOUGH CAR! I wouldnt trade it in for the world!

Here goes the rims and the damage

My opinion, but you you should spend your money on getting all that damage repaired before you buy anything for your car.

So true I have already picked up the fender door and quarterpanel, now just waiting on what i will do as far as a kit if i get a a full front kit i dont have to get the bumper but if i dont get the kit i will have to get an oem bumper also. But my rear shocks are damn near gone so i need the suspension straight asap. Everything will be done around the same time, but the suspension is a priority above the body damage, body damage wont kill me, a blown strut will... :P

I hope you didn't pay 2k for those. p.s. I had 18s on my Supercharged V6 5-speed Solara and it slowed it up, I can imagine how slow your I4 is with 20's.
