Knock Sensor Relocation w/ Dyno Results!!!

Postby Eye8Pussies » Mon Jan 22, 2007 7:04 pm

I actually posted this a while ago on ToyotaNation, but recently, there has been debate over dyno numbers and the like and it reminded me of the dynos that I had run previously, so I am copying the info over to SG for you guys.

This is a problem that is mostly prevalent on the 1994 1mzfe- the very first 1mzfe available to the NA market and was introduced in the 1994 v6 camry with only an automatic as an option. The knock sensors are over sensitive (also a problem on the supercharged 1997+ camry and solaras if they don't blow all together), and here are the dyno results on an NA automatic between having the ecu pull timing and dump fuel after receiving the knock signals, and not doing so and running as it should.

So here's my repost:

Four years ago, I dynoed my car and got this...

I went this past Friday to dyno my car once again and got this...

A gain of 16whp and about 2ft/lbs of torque. But most importantly, the torque curve is now great, and driveability is phenomenal

What did I change since then? I added ONE big TRD sticker!! LOL :D

List of mods to the car:

- ELPrototypes Custom CAI
- UltimateRacing Custom Y-Pipe
- Brullen Catback mid-pipe
- Universal Free-Flow Muffler

Differences between the runs:

- Dyno #1 @ 164,000km
- Dyno #2 @ 262,000km

- Dyno #1 w/ crushbent s-curve piping in between mid-pipe and muffler
- Dyno #2 w/ mandrel bent piping between mid-pipe and muffler

- Dyno #1 w/ Stock airbox + K&N Filter
- Dyno #2 w/ CAI

- Dyno #1 w/ 17" Advanti Racing Rims - Fairly light for 17s
- Dyno #2 w/ 18" 5Zigen 5ZR Rims - Fairly heavy

- Dyno #1 w/ Knock sensors in stock location
- Dyno #2 w/ Knock sensors relocated

Although there were small differences in the car between different dynos, the numbers are not the most important part to me (though they are really nice though- the second one, especially considering I'm running 18s- haha form over function). But it is the torque curve that really matters. Since relocating my knock sensors, I have gotten back all the power that the car was supposed to have along with the engine's great powerband and reliable/consistent power.

Here's a link to the thread that I started about the knock sensor relocation- mostly specific to the 94 1mz:

===============================================

Shortly after, I supercharged my car at about 267,000 km, and haven't hit up the dyno yet since I'm having some fuel problems. I'll post results when I do though. ;)
