Removing badge on grill

Removing badge on grill

Postby Solara916 » Sun May 27, 2007 1:07 pm

I did a search and couldn't find anything on this...

I removed my grill and I want to sand, paint, yadda yadda....

I'm trying to remove the badge, but the sucker won't come off. Am I missing something? How do you get the darn thing off? Are the prongs that are sticking out on the back part of the emblem? If so, how do you get those things through?

Help!

I though it just held on with glue?

Tried to floss it yet?

I did the whole floss and hair dryer thing. Worked great for the most part, but the middle part of the emblem seems to have two things sticking out from the back. One on the top part of the emblem and one on the bottom. That's why I asked about the prongs in the back. It looks like it's a part of the emblem, but I just want to make sure. And if it is, I'd appreciate some info on how to get the suckers through.

Oh..another question...

Are u supposed to use some specific sandpaper to sand down the grill?

What paint does everyone use?

I don't want to look like a total fool when I go out to buy all the supplies.

okay there are two small pieces in the center on the vertical oval that are stuck into the grill pretty hard, you cannot get it off without ripping it off and leaving a fragment of the "bolt" on there. ive done it before so yep. best bet is try and get a renova, or just rip the thing off, or keep it oem.

Go to your local automotive store and get sand paper with different grits .. start of rough grit then move on to smoother grits .. And get automotive paint

badge

Postby Solara916 » Sun May 27, 2007 7:39 pm

thanks for the responses guys...

I couldn't wait so I went ahead and bought what I thought I needed from Autozone, and now my grill is sanded down and primered.

I'm just waiting for it to dry so that I can apply the black paint.

I didn't bother taking off the badge since I wanted to keep it the faux chrome anyway. I'm thinking about repainting the two horizontal bars that run on the side of the badge chrome again. Does anyone have this done? If so, do you have pics?

I bought black paint designed for automobiles, but I'm kinda worried that it's going to be a little too glossy. Will flat black paint from Home Depot work too?

Any responses are always appreciated.
