question about tires

question about tires

Postby woa_its_j3ff » Mon May 28, 2007 7:57 pm

I'm looking to get some new sets of tires for my rims.
tried tirerack, etc...
i read a lot before deciding to post up on here so..

my rims are 17in. stock everything wheel-wise, meaning i have no spacers or anything like that that i modified or changed to make my rims fit.
question is, will this size tire fit on the lara?
235/45/17 ?

any info or anything of the sort please let me know, thank you.

stick with 225, less headache.

unless you go with a narrow footprint tire..

What offset and width? That is a big role on tire sizes..... In other words, your car didn't come with 17's as stockies, so what tire size do you have there now?

I am running 215/45/17s.
very very THIN tires :( i made a bad choice when getting tires yes I know so this time im doing my hmwk.
these tires look low profile but they are just rubberband thin. makes a huge gap in the wheel wells as you can tell from the pics sorta.

if you can tell us the name of your rim, we can maybe look it up. Make and model of your rim.

But 225 sounds appropriate. If you want to keep the overall diameter as your stock tire, you would need a 50 aspect ratio. (http://www.miata.net/garage/tirecalc.html)
Keeping in mind that stock was 205/60/16

so 225/45/17 would fit?

Yeah it'll probably fit, but the lower aspect ratio will leave a bigger gap.

my rims are ADR Sokudo 10s

and my MAIN concern this time when getting tires is to eliminate the tire/fender gap as much as possible. my current tires are way too "thin" and already make the gap bigger than it already should be without my drop.
I dont wanna push the tire/rim too much but i wanna do it just enough, but safely.

The best way to do that is to increase the sidewall, perhaps 50. However, then the width will need to decrease. I'm running 215/50/17, but I'm running spacers in the rear with rolled fenders. It also depends on the offset. However, this size makes almost 1 finger or less between the tire and fender.
This is the space where I should write something witty or clever, hoping to show some personality.
