Auto dimming mirror modification

Auto dimming mirror modification

When I purchased the vehicle in 2000, I found that the dimmed intensity didn't suit me. My memory suggests that it was probably too dark.

I held a pair of sunglasses over the sensor while driving and was extremely satisfied with the result, so I glued a small piece permanently in place. I think I used contact cement.

Worked like a charm.

Okay, you're going to have to make an intro post and tell us WTF is going on.

His auto dimming mirror was getting to dark for his liking so he put a sunglasses over the sensor and now it doesn't get as dark.

I had the auto-dimming rear view in my '04 and it was fine... Of course I had tinted windows, so that reduced the intensity of the light reaching the sensor on the mirror and may have caused it not to dim quite as much...

Anyways I never had any issue with it (even before I tinted if I remember properly).

Interesting trick none the less, I'd just be careful not to block out too much light, as it may not serve its purpose otherwise...

Welcome the the boards btw...

Well, at least a few people knew WTF was going on. Cheers to them.

I actually compared the dimming to a 2000 Impala and I liked the way the 2000 Impalla changed the intensity. So, after a little experimenting I came up with the polorized sunglass trick.

I tried to take a picture, but the modification blends in all too well.

So why not just buy a non-dimming mirror?
