What kind of tinting should I get? Should I do it pro or do it myself?

Anyone hear of these tints below?

Pay the extra cash to get a pro to do it. You'll be happier with the end result and most cases have a lifetime warranty on the install.

i would have it done by a shop.. most shops offer life time warranty on the tint so you dont have to worry about bubbles and peeling i also had my rear window redone 3 times since the place keeps messing up on mine.. the top of the window keeps bubbling over time. i mite need to bring it to another place... but other then that i haven't had much problems with it.. i would checkout the shop you go to before they work on your car and the place look professional.... just my 2 cents

If you're talking about the rear window, those lines defrost your rear window. You can put tint on it, but the dots at the top of the rear glass are somewhat annoying to get the tint to stick to. I have it done on my car and it is uneven on some parts of those dots.

haha! I know what the lines are, but there are these circular patterns. they're not regular enough to have been done purposely, but they look like plastic that's been kind of melted in the microwave. they're not as bad as that, but they are still noticeable to a wary eye.

but your reply does remind me about the defrosters: will tinting pose a problem? i'm guessing not, if so many people have done it already.

I also have a question about pricing. what's a good amount to pay? any recommendations on brands?

Those circular patterns are normal I guess. I can only see it at night when I'm below a street lamp.

About the rear window, it's better to have the dotted area blacktaped. Ask your shop about it. Mine was blacktaped because the shop had a Solara return because of complaints about the dot pattern. Saved me time from coming back to their shop :)

I know the side rear windows have dots too, but they're too little and can easily be covered by the tint film. I never had problems with it.

how many windows are you going to tint? here in CA it is illegal to tint the front windows, thus leaving me tinting only the rear three at the darkest shade.

roughly 5 window tint at a private store would be in the neighborhood of $95 all the way to $180. there is more than one tint type as well. i've seen dif colors, titanium and reflective. however, if cops can be an issue, just go with the normal "black" tint.
