bigger k&n filter on the cpe

So the afe filter that came with the cpe intake is pretty much all dried up. I am happy with the K&N E-0773. Fits just fine, though I had to unbolt the cpe and lift it up to slide it on. This filter is much nicer - it is significantly bigger than the blue one and has actually reduced the sucking noise at idle. Still roars at WOT.

Looking at the picture I took made me notice something I didnt before. The filter is so damn long that I was forced to install it much higher than normal, meaning the intake pipe is dipping rather deep into the filter. I am now also concerned about the broad rubber top blocking fresh air flow around the filter.

I am going stick with what cpe designed it for and use a tapered filter. RE-0950 seems like it would fit nicer in the Gen 1/1.5 engine bay than the mongo and still be a significant improvement over the afe filter. http://knfilter.com/search/product.aspx?Prod=RE-0950

Yea I did that mod here are some pics the filter is huge and barely fit esp wit the TB spacer. Also here is the thread from when i did it + the original. I would also like to report that the new filter helped with the buzzing sound I was getting from the intake when I hit 4k rpm

^^^ I liked it SO MUCH, I put one in my SUPRA!!!

(WORKS GREAT!) The one in the 'lara STILL doesn't show any signs of "drying out", which is why I swapped out the afe... AND... it doesn't "BUZZ" (as noted before) nor WHINE/RAZZ as "nasal" as the afe did with the CP-e at full honk. I'm pleased with my look, function, and what appears to be... performance.

G/L to anyone else in their experiements... and happy if it worked out for those who tried it!

what were the signs that ya'll had when the afe filter started drying out? i bought one of the afe's for my intake and am now worried that it'll dry out over the summer (esp here in south central tx). would re-oiling the filter help out, or is there no way to prevent it from happening?
