Rear Header Removal

Rear Header Removal

Postby Dawgz » Sat Jul 14, 2007 12:47 am

The front header is pretty strait forward and easy to remove for the most part....

but the rear header, after inspecting from the small, tight spaces...seems impossible for me to do.

Any tips or tricks that u guys used to remove the rear header?

Im completly at a stop @ the rear header, it seems impossible!

any help is greatly appreciated... :)

I think you will have to tip the engine, but don't quote me on that.

^^ Correct. Loosen one engine mount and place a jack with a block of wood under the engine. Tip it slightly for more clearance. If you can't get to the upper bolts, you may have to remove part of the intake so you can access it from top.

Best of luck!

Suggestion

Even for my techs using a lift and proper tools switching out the entire exhaust system to a JPP setup would run me 5 hours. There are certain things you shouldn't try, this being one of them.

^^ Mostly because Murphy shows up and breaks a stud or strips a thread. You will find yourself speaking in strange tongues and inventing cuss words when this happens.

Make sure to use a rust inhibator, I used PB Blaster to help loosen the rust. You should be able to reach all the nuts with a socket and lots of extensions or sometimes you can get a wrench up there. Try to only use a 6 point socket. Go slowly using multiple extensions.
You should be able to get the stock header out without tipping the engine but might make things go quicker. I had to tip the engine to get the JPP header in, but you're using stockers.
Lastly if you want to spend $$$$ go get it done by a Toyota tech.
You should be able to get it done. Patience. patience, patience...
