Has anyone here installed an rs3000 on their solara? If so, is it a plug and play kind of thing or do u have to find a whole lot of wires?

Also, if anybody has it installed.....is it worth a crap?

The RS3000 or the RS3200 is only worth it if came with the car for free from the dealer. Your best bet is to get an aftermarket alarm with more bells and whistles

which alarm would u guys recommend? When I did a search I found that CrimeGuard alarms will plug right in. Does anybody else make those wiring harnesses?
The only reason I'm all about putting it in myself is that the guys at the only electronics place here are boners. I don't want them messing up my car. I can do that.

crimeguard, IMHO, is crap. go with a brand name, top quality alarm. like DEI. WHY? aftermarket alarms provide one very important factor in protecting your car: IMPACT PROTECTION.

someone may want to just break your window and steal the things inside your car. that doesn't require opening the door, which is the only trigger that will trip the factory alarm.

yes, yes, the RS3200/3000 alarm does come with an optional impact sensor, but in all honesty, factory alarms (the key fobs in particular) aren't too reliable.

but what about the install of it? either me or gunman could help you with the install step-by-step so you don't have to 'mess up your car'.

im getting the computstar 2WSS-AS...its bad asssSssS! every bell and whistle immaginable...and also the best feature for those with very expensive rims...it has level alarm...thats if someone trys to jack up ur car from one side the alarm will sense it and will go off...not to mention its a two way alarm! heres the link...http://www.compustar.org/products/2WSS.html

Do you need two way paging or just a simple remote. Also do you want remote start

I don't want remote start but I would like a pager. I can't wait to get one hooked up so I have keyless entry.

if you're looking for an alarm w/o the remote start option. you are looking to get a DEI alarm with ESP2. for instance: Viper 900, SideWinder 6000ESP. with a DEI alarm with ESP2 the LCD remote is an upgrade in which you need a special plug-in port that will plug into the brain. for any of those two alarms, you are looking to spend at least $300 - $400 b/c THEY DO NOT SELL THESE ITEMS OVER THE COUNTER. only installed. the LCD remote (like the one used in the Clifford Matrix and Viper Responder system) alone is....(get ready) $100 dollars.

the total comes out to about $500, which is the current going rate for the Clifford Matrix and/or Viper Responder which already come with the LCD remote.

if you are able to find an alarm over the counter (probably on ebay) again, i can help with the install step by step via email or pm on the boards.


p.s. they do sell packages with the Viper or Clifford that include all the options w/o remote start.

so let's say i don't get the pager....that sounds kind of expensive. what alarms would u guys recommend with everything but remote start and a pager?

i'd highly recommend any DEI alarm. (Directed Electronics) Viper, Python, Sidewinder, Hornet, Wasp...so on and so on. again, if you get a DEI alarm WITH ESP2 ...you can always upgrade to the LCD remote later on if you wish.

DEI alarms aren't that great. Especially the Viper line. Most thieves know how to work on Viper alarms since they are more common out there on cars.

well actually, that's not entirely true. the only reason i recommended a DEI alarm to Ross, is b/c the return rate on their remotes is a significantly low 1%. remotes are the first thing to crap out on an alarm system rather than a bad shock sensor or faulty circuit board.

viper is a popular alarm, but just b/c a lot of people have it doesn't necessarily mean it's easy to steal. actually, all of the alarm wiring color codes are now switching over to the 'universal' wire color codes that DEI has used from the beginning. so if the theif is looking for the alarm wires, it won't matter if it's a DEI product or an AUTOPAGE, or a CRIMEGUARD product. soon all alarm wiring color codes will be the same. (at one point all alarm color codes used to be black!)

If a professional theif wants your car, they will steal it. There is a way around everything. A good alarm can help to prevent someone just out for a joy ride.

true, true. with a car alarm you're basically buying time. once someone breaks into your car, all they have to do is pop the hood and cut the siren wires. from there on, they can take their time to try and steal your car. if you have starter kill however, or a battery back up siren, that will buy you some time, as the thief will have to reconnect the starter wire, or physically remove the screaming battery back up siren.
