im assuming you want the tires that people with rims have?
just stick to a reasonable tire out there. rolling on stock wheel tire dimensions will not get you much performance gain. however if you feel like grabbing a tire like mine, (180treadware WOOT!) by all means go right on ahead.

here's a short list of good tire brands to look into

Pirelli
Yokohama Avs Sport
Kumho 712's?

i have heard badnews with Nitto 450's, however i had them before and never ran into any trouble.

Toyo Proxy
Kuhmo
Michelin Pilot

All in all go with one that fits your weather conditions.

i've had Michelin MXV4 XSE Plus tires and Yokohama Avid H4s...both were great for ride quality and tread noise. I think the michelin's held up better on tread life, but they're also almost twice the yokohamas. You could always go to tirerack.com and search for tires that fit. they have reviews, specs, roadtests..everything you could need to make a decision.

I'm on Michelin Pilot Sport A/S (225/40/18) right now and I absolutely love them so far. Don't know if they'd be worth the $$ on 16's though.

I was planning on getting Dunlop Sport A2's when my stock Potenza RE92 (horrible tires!) wear out, which unfortunately may be sooner rather than later. Whatever you decide, go ahead and use the "search" function to look for other tire discussions.

Also, check out tirerack.com for user ratings, and you may decide to order tires from them and have them shipped to a local installer.

I suspect being from Texas you will have no worries about snow, so that makes getting performance tires easier.
