HID 4100K kit for $200. Fishy or not?

My friend asked if I wanted an HID kit for $200. He says that he has been in a buisness where he gets them for 2 bills and sells them for like 3 or 4. He's a good friend of mine and I'm seriously tempted. Should I do it?

kit includes the ballast(or something like that), bulbs and the wiring.

He says mine will look exactly like the acura TL's.

So would there be a major difference between this HID and my current 9006 silverstars?

HID prices have come down in the past few years, and 4000k has been around for a while so its believable.

the silverstars are 4000k color temperature so you wouldnt see any difference in color, but HID illuminate the road much much better. For that price i'd go for it

One thing to add to this... HID is brighter if you have a housing that is designed for the HID beam pattern. You may not notice the difference if you are using a housing that is designed to for Halogen Bulbs (such as Solara's)

One thing I would check to see what ballasts the HID kit has. Hella, Philips, and Sylvania are really good ballasts. You might want to also check and see how much of a retrofit it would take to add this kit your car.

People get the misconceptions that 9000k is brighter than 7500k but it's not. You will never get your lights to look like Acura or BMW due to the fact that their housings are made for HID but they come pretty close on these kits. I personally have the HID Plus Conversion 7500k High/Low beam and it turns head even from the pricier cars.

7500k is already blue/purple

Whitest and brightest should be around 5000k

Universal HID tend to have a problem - they cannot focus well. you Might have to customize some bracket to make it focus right.

200 is about the cost of not name brand HID. My friend's company used to sell them too ($450), but he doesnt suggest me to buy it. He said their HID become yellowish over time and he has no idea why it happen (lo quality obviously). So they just stop to carry the HID.

but 200 for HID is a very attractive price...i still want them, althought my friend refuse to get it for me.

my friend just got his HID installed..6000k Hella, I think it's really nice. Also the HID shop told him that purple is illegal, so they only sell blue ones now.
