TRD Struts/Springs = Low Ride...Winter snow problems?

I just got the TRD struts and springs. I live in central Ohio, so we see a good amount of snow in the winter here. I was wondering if dropping the car about an inch and a half would cause trouble? Does everyone around here with a dropped car put their stock struts and springs back on every winter? Or are they all rich and have winter rides?

Good question kronos. I used to live in Atlanta, GA so winters with the low ride were never an issue. Now that I moved back to Maryland (and we don't even get as much snow as you do), I bought a GMC truck for the nasty weather. I certainly wouldn't go through swapping the parts twice a year though. -JoeB

haha...yeah Kronos...I hear ya. I'm up here in Vermont right now on temporary duty and I'm in the same predicament, but I think I'll wait for a while and buy EXERD's products for now. But seriously, does anyone know if you would have serious trouble in the winter time with a lower ride? What about salt and sand, would that hurt the upgraded springs and struts? :-?

man, i wasn't even thinking about hurting the struts and springs. i was more worried about physically sloshing around in the snow with the bottom of my car! if i've only got like 2 inches of clearance, and it snows like 6-12 inches at a time like last year, i'm pretty screwed...

just a thought but unless their plowing the roads you won't make it through the snow anyway so the drop won't matter, you may want to get some snow tires though to improve traction

Wait wait wait, First of all... your car wouldn't make it through 12 inches of snow, dropped or not.

In NJ we get a ton of snow and last winter was brutal. Of course when the roads are snow covered its harder to drive (I also have the TRD kit along with the drop) but anything over 4" of snow on the ground and you're in big trouble anyway.

Don't worry about the snow, just be consciencious when there is some snow. Clearance with the drop is still pretty good

One problem I had in the winter was snow builiding up between the wheel and wheel well. It would build up and freeze and actually clog and obstruct the wheel. Mind you, this was on days there was snow on the ground. The snow plows are usually out and clear the road pretty quick.

As Yanks said, drive carefully.

Another winter tip...on days days that the temp is hoverign near freezing/melting point (0C) hose the car down to get rid of road salt.

actually while it's still cold out the salt won't really hurt your car much. once it warms up, though, if you still have salt on your car thats when you start to get in trouble. it's a good idea anyway though, damn salt certainly won't help ;)
