Here's my goal: 300 hp from 3.0L. I need some helping figuring out the most efficient ($/hp) way to get there. Here's where I'm starting (I'm only listing mechanical in this post, cosmetics don't mean anything if you can't back them up):

'99 Solara 5S-FE 2.2L, 5-speed, Pearl White - $5000
Custom Borla cat-back dual exhaust +10 hp?
El-cheapo ram air intake
Vogtland lowering springs, KYB GR-2 struts, shocks
TWM short shifter
K&N cone filter
'99 Solara SE 1MZ-FE 3.0L, 5-speed, Black - wrecked, $1000 (computer, motor, tranny are all good)

Here's what I think I need:
Motor/transmission/computer swap (obviously) 190 hp base
TRD Supercharger, 9 psi (duh) +50 horses?
Headers (OBX or the best value you guys can recommend) +15 horses?
Catalytic converter (??) +?
Larger injectors (HKS, Blitz?) +?
Intake (CP-E, Injen? - recommendations?)
Clutch (Competition Clutch Stage 4, 6 pad)
Fuel Management (Apexi?)
Ignition (MagneCor wires + factory?)

Look forward to your recommendations on my journey. I'll post pictures soon and get into cosmetic stuff (wheels, spacers, body, paint, etc.).

u need a supercharger, theres a couple for sale in the for sale section, u need injectors, jims fuel mod, an apexi or a split second fuel managemaent system, an injen intake, new fuel pump, a new clutch, meth injection to be able to run 7psi to achieve 300whp, obx is the best headers & exhaust for the money, u need 3in obx, & a few more things, talk to gregtrd or gabe trd4life & they can hook u up with most everything you'll need...............

The best way to achieve 300whp is to bring it to fontana.

Wow guys, that's a lot of information. As for budget, I can spend a thousand or two every year until I'm done. I don't intend to drop all the cash right away. This will be a long project. Now another question - with all of these mods to get to 300 hp, will the car still tolerate regular (87 octane) unleaded for regular driving? What kind of fuel mileage would you expect after this kind of modification?

you definitely do not want to be running 87 with the amount of work you're looking at

Will the TRD supercharger or an MP90 supercharger run "OK" with 87 octane at all depending on pulley size? Could I run a larger pulley and run lower octane for less boost and switch my belt, pulley, and fuel if I wanted higher horsepower for certain *hypothetical* situations?

no 91 octane minimum for 4psi. anything over 4psi you will need 93+ octane

Run good gas if you want performance.

Drive a Yaris or Geo or Carolla or some other eco-compact mileage machine if you want to get good mileage and use low octane gas.

Are you trying to tell me I shouldn't expect 30 MPG and 300 HP with Arco gas?

you can get 30 mpg and 300hp but don't expect your mpg to stay at 30 as soon as you depress you gas pedal.
