breather filter?

Postby dinoxor » Sat Nov 17, 2012 1:16 pm

Lately my check engine light is turning on more and more frequently as I rev my engine to high rpm.

But, due to budget, I could not afford to make an oil catch can at the moment but rather resolved to a more temporary solution until funding is sufficient.

I installed a 12mm breather filter

However, this is how my set-up looks like.

Are there any drawbacks to this setup?
I know eventually the filter is going to drip oil but I placed it in a location where the oil will (hopefully) have the least effect on the engine.

Any input will be great.
Thanks!

Thats better than having oil drenching the maf, other wise oil coming out of there means worn piston rings, prepare yourself for a rebuild in the next few years.

The drawback is that your blow-by is not being sucked out. Shouldn't really be a problem. But having your blow-by actively sucked out is preferable to it building up in pressure and evacuating itself.

I got my oil-air separator from JEGS for less than $50.

Check it out!

BTW, I believe there are TWO blow-by evacuation ports (or whatever the heck they're called). I have my oil-air separator hooked up to two vacuum lines coming off the engine. One in the front as shown in your picture, and one that comes from the back head.
