Custom, color-matched euro tails?

Custom, color-matched euro tails?

I have had this idea brewing for a while now. I've never been a fan of euro tail lights because the chrome always looks cheap. What if I cracked them open, painted the chrome area to match the body color, then sealed them back up? I know getting a good seal would be imperative. Anything else? Has this been tried before?

People have tried making their own clear corners on the 02+ since they don't make them and no one has gotten a good enough seal to keep them from fogging up. Just something to think about.
Please stop humping my car, owner privilege!
