sound

Postby droomyster » Tue Aug 13, 2002 10:57 am

yes, the sound does change a lot

the injen intake i've heard is the loudest. i had mine installed in april and it is doing pretty well. it gets even louder when the a/c is on. but you really only hear it when you are accelerating quickly in the lower gears. in 3rd and 4th, you will only hear it if you floor the gas pedal. and you hear the sweet hum when you gently press the gas. the hum gets louder of course after 80-90mph, again depending on if you the a/c on.
I paid for 6 cylinders, no point in not using them :D

droomyster that humming youre talking about is cool....but you dont necesserily just hear it at 80-90mph, you hear it all the time, but yes it does get louder the faster you go...you'll hear it the best at 3500-4500 RPM.

When I first got my injen intake installed it made it sound like a V8, well after awhile it just sounded like a really cool air intake, but when you first install it beware of the noise. The noise is amplified if you have a cat-back exhaust.

I hate to burst everyone's bubble, but I am against those intake kits.
It does more harm than good. Yes, I admit that they look cool, and sound cool, but that's about it.

By removing the filter box and exposing the filter in the engine bay will only harm the performance of the engine, because it brings in hotter air than the OEM filter box which has a funnel stuck into the front fender. Engine bay can get up to 200 degree easy!!! They used to have those intake kits for Mustang V8s, and they used to cause irregulater detenation in the cylinders because air coming in was too hot!!!

We all know that colder air has denser oxygen, which is mixed with the fuel, ignite, thus our engine power... So those intake kits bring in more air, but they are HOT air, which means not much oxygen...

If you want performance make your own CAI (cold air intake), which puts the air filter in the front fender or inside the front grill. This obviously is better choice since it brings in cooler air. Or make yourself a ram air intake kit..

i agree. the short ram intake kit for the solara is not as good as the full cold air intake systems but it still does help performance. it depends on where you live and how hot the temperature actually gets. if you actually remove your filter box, you will notice that it pulls the air from a gap on side. the intake lays on top of this gap and still does pull air from it. you can also get a heat shield which is supposed to help keep dramatic heat off the intake. i don't actually have this so i don't know how well it works.
with the warmer temperatures, my car does run louder and maybe not so quick, but i don't see it causing any damage, or at least i haven't heard of it doing so.
so basically, what i'm trying to say, is that there is a fresh air supply going to the intake and it isn't all bay air.

solara2k2, READ MY POST, and I hope reading that post will steer you away from making a mistake...

droomm,

I guess I am so against intake kits because I live in a hot climate area.

Thats true jay, but when you remove the stock airbox you still have the funnel that leads to it left behind, atleast on the 4cyl you do. I was planning on making a heat shield to cover up the intake and have it just suck air from the funnel, but i dont have the time right now

Jay its ok if your against it..but the way i figure is, even though I am gettin hot air, I'm still suckin more O2 than with a regular OEM airbox.

You need to own an air intake Jay to notice the difference, you cant just say this and that without actually experiencing it. But like you said it all depends on where you live and what your prefference is, it wouldnt help having an air intake if you lived in Death Valley where it gets up to 120 degrees.

I bet these intakes work great at night when it's a little chilly out..

I can't really feel the temperature difference with Solara, but with my Mustang, it was night and day difference... When weather's hot, Stang ran sloppy..when it was cold, it had some giddy up..

what if you use the injen intake for fall/winter/spring time and the stock intake for summer?
