Hey guys... I'm thinking about getting some 17" rims for my 99 SE. I have some questions(I searched):

What is the stock width of the solara wheel?

I'm thinking I might grab Motegi Mr7's - please try to convince me otherwise if you think this is a bad idea (and not because of the size - I'm set on 17's because I don't want to suffer much in ride quality).

What tire size will fit a 17x7 Motegi without screwing up my speedometer?

Thanks a lot guys :)

give tirerack.com a shot. Itll give you all the answers to all those questions by just putting in your car and what you want to plus size to.

Stocks for me were and still are 205/65/15s if I remember right.

If you want to find out exactly how much it offsets the odometer, give 1010tires.com a shot and just put in the original size and the plus size and itll tell you what 60mph would be with the new tires.

yeah it depends on your stock size. 205/65/15 was mine 2000 SE. Hub caps or aloys? Look on your tire it is marked.

Thanks guys - I was actually asking what the width of the stock WHEEL was... and I have the alloys. Is it 7" ??

Basically, I need to keep the overall height the same in order not to mess up my speedometer correct? So I guess if I read my current tire I can figure out the overall size and then figure out appropriate tire sizes for the wheels I get in order to retain speedometer accuracy.

I'll check out those websites too...

Yeah I think stock is less than 7.
Basicaly your trying to see what would be the right tire size for 17x7s?
I have 18x7 and use 235/40. (Too wide for the rim width) but perfect for speedometer calibration.
You will be fine with 225/50. Acording to the calculater it is the closest to speedometer. Only off by .5 mph to fast than your realy traveling.
I'm down grading to 225 when I need to get new tires.

that 1010tires.com site recommends 215/50 for 17" on the solara. 225/50's put you like a quarter inch bigger than stock - not sure what that equates to in speedometer error.

Anyways, I get the math now so....

what's the word on Motegi's... they are cheap I noticed. Typically, you get what you pay for but this is my first experience in the aftermarket wheel industry so I'm not sure how much it matters or what I might be sacrificing.

I mean if I hit a little pothole are the motegi's gonna fall apart or what?

Basically, I'm doing this strictly for handling purposes and trying to not attract any unecessary attention... I thought the motegi's looked pretty nice and not that far off from stock which is why I'm thinking about them.. plus for the fact that they are damn cheap.

Thanks again

Not experienced with that brand...sorry.

I was using 215/60/16 as your stock size...I must be mistaken.. cause using that figure the 215 is not as close as the 225 for the 17" rim / That 225 takes you 1" smaller than stock.

Good Luck with your wheels.

It's a good replica brand
Only bad thing is seeing it on a lot of other people's cars
These rims are nice...until I get some better ones then the motegi will be my winter rims.

yup :) that's what I was looking at.
Actually - I believe it was your car that I saw on cardomain that made me start looking at the motegis... looks good. I'm not sure if I want to go with the gunmetal or silver.

Motegi MR7s are pretty popular for aftermarket 17" rims around here (if not the most popular) . I think its a safe bet if you like the look, but some people like to be different than everyone else. Its one of the few ones offered at physical stores all over, and usually one of the only ones with 7-spokes, which people like for some unknown reason.

actually why dont you try the motegi trak lite's , i think they just came out. 17 inches are about 14 pounds and 19 inches are a lil heavier , but i dont know how much. they dont make 18's i dont know why. 14 pounds are pretty light , gives good performance and they dont look too bad. fo shizzles
