tire question

ok before i get flamed, i KNOW this has been asked before, and i did use the search feature, but it was exhausting to go through that mess. im getting mille miglia evo5s, which are size 18*8. do i get 225/40/18 or 245/40/18 tires? tirerack recommended 225. i know 245 will be wider, but how can the tire be wider than the rim? and what offset do i use, im thinking 40? is it + or - 40 though? i want the wheel to be flush with the wheel well, not sticking in or out. thanks in advance.

If they recommend 225 I'd stick with 225, that's a pretty common size for 18x7.5s on our cars. But then again you have 18x8 so 235 should be fine. 245 might be too wide if you ask me.

Go with 225. 245/40/18 may be too thick and throw your speedo off. I also got my MM-EVO5's from tirerack. They give you the proper offset for the solara without having to ask.

Yeah definatly not 245.

225 is perfect for that rim width.

Shoot I got 235 and will be going back down to 225 when needing replacement. They are to wide for my rim size. 18x7 (and hard to balance)

I just saw those rims your talking about and they look CLEAN!!!!

is the offset determined when the tire is put on the wheel, or when the wheel is put on the car? how is this adjusted?

245 is way too thick and will rub on the inside so def go with the 225/40/18. You will be happy with it and it holds the road real well better than stock 205s

The offset is predetermined and can't be adjusted. It is all about the rim's offset. (The location of the hub mounting surface on the rim) Tires have nothing to do with it. Get it "Width" "With" haha I crack my self up!
