I bought a tranny cooler from summit racing. Does anyone know how hard it is to install one? I bought one b/c my tranny fluid seems to be black everytime i change it at every 15k. I thought maybe this would help. Any info is appreciated.

Although I did not install it, I did see how it was done and it wasn't hard.

I'll take a few pics of where mine was mounted

tranny cooler question

Postby psixix » Wed Jun 16, 2004 12:13 pm

Does the addition of a transmission cooler require more transmission fluid to be added? Or is it small enough not to make a diference?

Thanks

Mine is somewhat like that. The only difference is that mine is 11x8x1.5. I just rec'd mine today...funny thing is that i ordered the one w/o instructions or tubing and fittings. I like how they left that out of the information when I ordered the item. Now i just have to figure what i need at my local auto parts store. Any know exactly what i need??

You'll need some stainless steel clamps, a ttap, and some extra hose.

Mine looks very similar.

It does require a few more qts of transmission fluid.

I'll try and upload some pics tonight

I did notice a difference after the cooler was installed, but that was only because I had my tranny fluid flushed.

However, the transmission seems to handle the heat better, and I can continue to get on my car without the shifts getting rough

Definately worth it

Well...i had to return the cooler...i couldn't find the parts anywhere and tranny shops were charging me 135 to install it...w/o the parts. I ended up getting another one w/ the parts....it's okay though, summitracing sent me a 20 dollar gift certificate for being a first time buyer and i used it on my order. Then I will be getting a refund on my return..so i'll end up only paying 40 bucks..compared to the 70 I paid for the first cooler. The cooler size is 6x11x1.5. I hope this one works.
