I've decided I want to upgrade the acceleration on my '99 4-cylynder Solara (Black). I also want to uprade it to sound as quiet as possible. Anybody have ideas on what I could do?

Also I want the suspension upgraded. It grounds out on bumps/dips rather easily.

Ok assuming you bought your car stock, that is about as quiet at it will get. Upgrades like intake, exhaust and sc/turbo will all add different amounts of noise, depending on brand and quality of the components. Intakes remain pretty quiet except at wide open throttle. My friend just put a cai on his maxima and it absolutely ROARS when he revs it to redline. Make sure you get true cold-air intake, dont cheap out and get a short ram. And no e-bay fart can exhaust, those add no power and are loud and obnoxious.

As for suspension upgrades, if you are bottoming out a lot you might want to A) take it easier on the dips B) look into replacing worn struts/springs. If you want better handling search for tokico struts and eibach/vogtland/tein springs, but all of these will lower your car's ride height. If you have the cash to burn go for adjustable coilovers.

Thats my two cents,

please disregard that.

the Tornado is a gimmick and does not work.

just pop in a K&N filter. it should help throttle response slightly, but leaves the car still quiet.

There's not much you can do w/o increasing the noise level. For the suspension, if you want adjustable height and best overall go for coilovers . There are TEIN or JIC, but don't get Ground Control. If that's to much $, just get the struts/springs posted before.

If you want to keep it quiet get the apexi world sport exhaust. Great exhaust. Sounds good and looks good, but its still quiet. You can find more peoples opinion on this product by searching

I'll second that, I have the Apexi and sometimes unless i look at my RPMs i'm not sure i left the car runing or not. Solarat can confirm that since after his initial stall after driving my car, he didnt know if the car was on or not... aint that right homeboy!! lol

I have the Apexi WS on my car and it isn't even noticeable by most people. They all think the exhaust is stock. On a N/A 4-cyl it won't do much for you. Try saving up to get the ripp mods S/C. I'm not really sure about what's out there for the 4cyl. Maybe you could do a search. But forced induction is about the only way you're really going to improve acceleration on your 4cyl Solara.
