Good pics, ive been there a few times before. Makes you really wonder why the toyota engineers didnt make the 6x9 grilles removable so you could access the screws without gutting your entire backseat.

HAVE FUN :bday: keep in mind that the stock speaker is on a bracket that has 3 screws so you will have to either make your own holes into tha rear deck or fabricate your own...

ALL THAT just to access the rear speakers? Wow. I guess I gotta put up with some rattling a little longer until I could get some new speakers.

just want to say thanks for this info it came in real handy and reduced my rear speaker removal from 8 hrs to 4 hrs..

this is just rediculous to get rear speakers out but oh well

one suggestion. watch your clips very carefully and be prpared with a magnet and a flashlight when you do drop one which is for the most part ineveitable..with care it can be done dropping only 1 or 2 clips then it only takes ligh 30 minutes to find it

most clips are platic but 2 are metal

OK I just got TS-A6991Rs installed in my car (can't take the rattling anymore)... A few things to note, though:

1. If you have JBL, pluck the harness out of the original JBL speakers, crimp it and retrofit it to the new speakers instead of using the factory wiring harnesses (the polarity is still based on the width, but the factory wiring is slightly wider).

2. You'll have to drill 4 holes EXACTLY under the speakers; if you're off, you'll have to either drill another hole or put it in crooked, and we all know how tacky that could get (but it's barely noticable once it's in, but it's a VERY tough job just to match the slots up)

3. You'll need a torque wrench with a screwdriver bit to reach the rear speakers. because you're given less than 2 inches to tighten the 2 back screws.

4. Like Jaydee said, watch the clips; sometimes they'll get stuck on the car body and it's tough to get out without pliers.

5. REALLY tighten the seat belt bolts to the point where it is impossible to turn it under normal force for your own safety.
