Flip Flop Trunk

Flip Flop Trunk

Postby SolaraGuy22 » Tue Feb 20, 2007 10:46 pm

Well I was bored and decided to go through some old pics. I ran across the ones from when I did my flip flop trunk forever ago and figured I'd throw them on here.

Remove the carpet from the trunk lid
Image

Remove the stock trunk lid
Image

Just like this
Image

And This
Image

Install the hinges
Image

On both
Image

Find out where you need to drill for the holes on the lid for the hinges
Image

Take the hinges off and make a small cut on the tip of the arm so it will lay properly when displayed
Image

Make sure you use something to catch the shards
Image

Just like that
Image

Let your trunk know how lucky it is that it’ll have this cool feature
Image

Install the hinges again
Image

Make sure everything looks good
Image

You’ll need to put something between the hinge and bar to rest smoothly when displayed. *Don't use this jelly crap.
Image

Install the cotter pin in the piece of metal you made and drilled
Image

Here's another pic
Image

And another
Image

Do the other side
Image

Just like that
Image

I used putty/cement stuff to make a mold on the tip so I can shape how I want it to rest
Image

Shape it and sand as needed
Image

Hook everything back up
Image

There you go
Image

And there
Image

Any questions or need more information let me know.

Can you put your carpet back on the trunk?

How does the trunk close? Does it require you to put the pins back in?

It actually seals the trunk better than it did stock, with stock you can mash on it and it'll move in with this there is no movement it's solid. Subs sound the same. It's all cosmetic you don't get any benefit from this mod.

Like Mark said I did this back in my rice days and yeah you put the carpet back on. You have to cut a little bit off so it'll move as you can see in the pic I took from when I put Dynamat on it.

For the most part just because of the fact I could only work on it at night. But once you have the materials it's pretty simple.
