New Independent Foglight Mod. (GEN1)

Well truthfully if you were to short a wire from the ECU, it wont blow anything with the battery disconnected, but when you reconnect it to test your progess, what do you think will happen then?...

Its all about being careful, and taking your time so that you'll be happy with the end result.

Well, the mod didn't work as well as I wanted it to. The fogs indeed do blink when I lock/unlock the car via keyfob, and they come on along with the headlights when I have highbeams on (which is a weird side effect!) However, the fogs don't come on when I have it set to DRL only... What am I doing wrong?

When you say they're set to DRL....what does that mean?

On the stalk, when I rotate the headlight knob, you can go from:

OFF
DRL
AUTO
HEADLIGHTS

Think it's different on the 1.5?

I keep playing with it, and I think the Gen 1.5 is set up just a tad differently from the Gen 1... anybody figure it out yet?

I was actually going to try this sometime this week.

By saying DRL you mean when the signal lights turn on by themselves right?

If so once I'm done I'll let you know and keep you posted with the outcome.

I dont belive i've ever seen a "DRL" setting on the stalk before. Its usually

Off
Parklights
Headlights
Auto

Do you have a pic you can post?

I know that the gen 1.5 will be a tad different that way. You cant select an "auto" setting on the gen1's

That is like the strangest thing I've ever seen.....

What would it normally do in DRL mode?

Only the DRL is on. On the Gen 1.5, the DRL is the high beams at a lower wattage. The one below that says "DRL OFF" which means everything's off. I think it's the difference between Gen 1 and Gen 1.5 that's giving me different results.

Ah i see.....your car is completely different to ours in canada. You have the choice of having DRLs or not....in canada, we have them weather you want them or not. We therefore dont have that "DRL" setting on the signal stalk. The tutorial is based on a vehicle (gen1 or gen 1.5) that does not have the "DRL" setting. The fogs wont come on with the DRL, but that is normal for what this tutorial was written for.

If you really want the fogs to come on with the DRL, I'm sure i can figure out something...even though my car doesnt work like that.

Makes sense... hmm. I would like that since that was the whole point of the endeavour. :P Thanks for your help.

I wish I lived closer, I wouldn't mind using my car as a guinea pig.

Parking lights
Headlights

and a separate little ring for foglights on/off (only when headlights are on) like your foglight control

DRL off....nice

I'm actually outside trying to do this mod before I start packing for the hurricane evacuation but I ran into some trouble.

Well when it says cut the RED/BLUE SILVER dot wire I actually don't have on. :-? In the bottom role I only have the

THICK RED/BLUE SILVER dot wire (which is the one I don't want)
followed by a
WHITE/BLACK wire
GREEN wire
BLACK wire
and WHITE/BLACK

Maybe theirs a slightly different wiring since I have a 00 SE. Any ideas?
