Changing the color of your clock

OKANG. wrote:What about making a replacement cover out of 1/8" red-colored plexiglass? Getting the right shape might be a little tricky, but definately possible. For the curve, just heat the plexi over a mold made from the original cover.

A 24"x24" sheet it only $10. The major deterrant is the amount of fabrication work. With the mold and leftover plexi, someone could sell a few of the red covers.

I just ordered some blue acrylic 12"x 12" 1/8" thick
Going to take on this project and try and mold the front at least and then weld the clips to it. Or just do a complete mold. If successful I will do red and sell them. Expect results by the end of August. :drinking: :bday:

in case anybody was wondering, i used the transparency paper and tried a blue permanent marker, covering just one side of it and taping it to the shield that covers the clock. came out a lot bluer than just removing the cover for the clock. thanks flash

done! looks sweet... here are my steps after i took the brown case off..i didn't like the fact that it had no protection u kno from dust and stuff so i took it upon myself to make sure it was protected... you guys have already found ways but my way is the cheap no money reusing trash way.

1... took thin clear plastic cup... Blue king marker (the big fat one you guys love to smell back in kindergarden)... scissors and a carpenters knife

2... Cut the damn plastic cup but found out it kept rolling up... I look in my backseat and saw the plastic trash my windshield wipers came in...

3... Cut out a plastic strip from the plastic packaging and outlined the clock onto it... Putting a dot on the H and M so i can cut a hole for it...

4. stabbled the 2 holes very gently because they are sensitive ... then i used the marker on both sides...

5... i was so excited i didn't wait for the marker to dry and i cut the outline of the clock... reassembled the clock into the center console with the plastic blue strip between the clock and the console.

6. a lot brighter... it is the teal that shows on the indiglo guages... looks real sweet... especially with 2 cuts on my fingers that look like smurf fingers from the marker

Try This

Postby redgreen21 » Fri Aug 05, 2005 10:38 am

If your looking for a quick cover, I used MS Word and created a table. I Back filled the table (with any color you want), then printed in off on an HP transparency paper with a color inkjet printer. It came out great, then I just cut it to size! Hope it helps someone.

For about 30$ you can build a new clock with more features and any color you want. Screens like that are sooooo cheap. Just gotta know some electronics.
