oil change on the 1mz-fe

i know this is pretty much general info but i didn't see anyone post anything about changing the oil in the 1mz-fe.

1. go buy any kind of 5w-30 oil and an oil filter of your choice (look in the little book if you don't know which filter). buy 5 quarts of oil

2. cool the engine.

3. either use a car ramp, or jack and jack stands to get the front of your car up.

4. locate the oil pan. its close to the front passenger side wheel, you'll see it.

5. get a socket wrench and find the right socket and remove the bolt/ plug. it might take a little force.

6. drain the oil.

7. once the oil is done draining, remove the oil filter. there is oil in the filter so make sure you have something to collect it. the filter is located right under the headers.

8. get your new filter and lube up the brim with the new oil.

9. screw the filter on.

10. replace bolt/plug. make sure the gasket is on.

11. pour new oil in. use about 4.5 quarts.

12. lower the car.

sorry if this is stupid, just for the people who don't know how to change the oil in the 1mz fe. correct me if i'm wrong about anything.

clarification: 5 qts of oil for 1mfze

if you left over for a day to get the oil complete drain, use 5.2 qt

if you didn't change the filter, put 4.7 qt

The 1MZ was actually designed for 4.5 qts of oil. Its in the manual.

A couple of additions.

Warm the car up for 2 minutes, the oil drains better
Be sure to manually thread the oil pan plug back in and then use the socket, you don't wanna strip that.
Start up your car, let it run for a little, shut off your car and check the oil level

Here is an additional article on how to change your own oil

http://www.edmunds.com/ownership/howto/ ... otips.2.*#

BTW use 5w30 in the colder climates and 10w30 in the summer when it gets real warm

read a little more carefully,
4.5 w/o filter change
4.7 w/ filter change

that 5.2 is only if you could get the oil out of the lifters, etc. you can't do that by draining overnight. nor would you want the inside of your engine exposed to the open moisture and air overnight.[/quote]

This is not stupid, look at what it caused. More information and tips! I love this place. This basics apply to the 5SFE also except maybee for the amount of oil.

Adam, you do this everyday, how much for the 5SFE? I was putting 4.5 w/filter change and it was to the max. 8)

4.5 :o on 5S-FE we do 4 with filter change and 3.7 -3.8 w/o filter change .. cuz the 1mz-fe hasa bigger filter which hold more.. the 5s-fe has an A2 filter... the 1mz-fe has a B1 which is now a D1 filter pre-lubed
