Hey Josh, I had a few quick questions...

I don't have independents installed (I'm going to do it in a week!) but my fogs don't work at all right now... which, if I went through all the trouble of doing the independents.. I'd like for them to be working...

Anyways, for the fogs, do they turn on ONLY with the high beams? Or can you just click it forward and it automatically lets it work?

I recently bought this car off the previous owner (about a week ago) and I don't know how it's supposed to function, stock-wise and I've never had a vehicle with fog's so I can't test on that (or friends with fogs).

I hope you still remember! Thanks so much, if I can figure this out, I'm going for the independents. I also might just try independents to fix my fog problem as WTF? did.

Thanks man!!!

trust me man! as long as you do it RIGHT, your fogs will work totally independently from your headlights and have nothing to do with your headlights

Did this little mod this weekend.

Took me hour and half and then needed a back massage from wifee after being cramped under the steering for that long.

The toughest part was (30 minutes) was trying to unclip that white thingie that holds the relay. Most of the time went to understanding this comment:

Find a thin 18ga red w/ blue stripe wire. Be careful there is also a thick 16ga red w/ blue stripe wire which is NOT the one we want.

I found the thin 18ga red w/ blue stripe wire easily. But trying to locate another thick 16ga red w/ blue was what ate most of my time. I could not for the life of me locate that 'THICK" red w/ blue stripe wire. There was another thicked striped wire (i think it was blue w/ white stripe) for my 2001. Nevertheless, KUDOS for a great write up, really good explanations...real simple logic.
Edit: Thanks, now my fogs work independantly!

I'm sure I can get it done, I just don't have a gen2 to figure it out with.

I have a couple questions for pythonjosh or anyone that knows the answers.

1. Will this work on a 2001 or are the wires different?
2. Does the fog light switch still work or is it now only ignition based?

Thanks in advance!!

2001 is still the first gen. So yes. Ignition based? Dunno what you're talkin about. The mod is to make the fog lights independant, so that they are controlled by the fog light switch regardless of any condition (as long as the key is at least in the accessory position). You can wire them up an always hot wire, but you'll have the chance of leaving your fogs on and killing your battery, and why would you want your fogs on without the keys in the ignition anyways.
