I just did mine last week. I was expecting all this caked on goodness, but it wasnt dirty at all though, even after 46K and the original filter. Maybe its because I got a I4. About two sprays and about a 30 seconds of brushing got it clean and residue free. Outside of the butterfly valve, it was completely clean, you could still see the brass colored metal.

Awesome tutorial, just did mine on a 99 V6 with just over 70k. It was very dirty, but simple to clean. I also used the stp intake cleaner, like $3 at auto zone. I will be using the valvoline synpower fuel system treatment once i gas up again. And Ill be getting my injen tommorow, so thought i might as well give it a clean home 8)

hey, i got the STP cleaner, and sprayed the crap out of my throttle body, but now i got a code 505, idle control system malfunction. what did i do wrong? and how do i go about fixing it? i tested the IAC like the Haynes manual said. it seems fine.

after i drove it, the throttle seemed stuck. not when gassing it, but when letting go of the gas. it would still go for a couple of seconds, before backing off.

Is it safe the drive about say half an hour (10 miles) and clean the throttle body once i arrive at the destination? Or should I wait for the car to cool down? If so , how long would i wait?

Engine temp shouldn't effect cleaning, aside from it being a little uncomfortable to work around a hot engine.
