5-speed auto shifting

Not to mention a lot of Honda transmissions have completely failed after just 5-15,000 miles. Honda has the real problem. Toyota just has a few irritations.
Moved on to better things...

You mine as well get used to the drive by wire funkyness as most of the higher end cars will be headed in this direction. So if you cannot deal with it maybe the Hyundai is the car for you.

Try and drive a manual transmission car with drive by wire you will dislike it even more. I had an 04 TSX before the Solara and it was the first car that I had driven with drive by wire and I could shift faster than the car could respond and all I got was a delay or I call it more of a bog between shifts. At times under hard acceleration the car would surge also. I test drove a VW GTI VR6 and the drive by wire was even worse in terms of bogging.

The Solara is the first auto tranny I have owned in 22 years of driving and it does have some delay at certain times and the tranny does slip on the 1-2 shift only if you do not have your foot in it quite right, you have to consider all the electronics involved in the equation. I certainly believe that from a performance perspective drive by wire sucks I have yet to see a benefit over a mechanical linkage but it is here to stay so get used to it. My .02 cents.

I was just reading a review of the '04 Acura TL. Their (Tuner World's) comments on the advantages of Acura's "drive by wire" electronic throttle control were, "... besides providing more precise response to pedal input, it allows closer integration of the five-speed automatic and stability control system (VSA) with engine functions". :-?

But I have to agree with Swiftoy, I too have yet to see any real benefit of drive by wire over a mechanical throttle linkage in my Solara.
