Thanks for the your responses. Just picked up my car....its awesome! Can't believe how quiet it is (convertible) Unfortunately we are getting thunderstorms and heavy rain. Good news is I pulled the car in the garage after picking it up and literally 2 to 3 minutes later the sky opened up! I would prefer to be cruising around but instead I'm going through the manuals. Tomorrow is going to be sunny in CT so I'm looking foward to spending the day with family cuising - top down of course.

Sure enough the dealer detailed the car. I did notice a few swirls in the paint on the hood on the driver's side. Not much I can do at this point other than ask why they needed to buff that area. Thoughts on how this could affect the clear coat?

Well you could just log onto www.autopia.org and start reading. I would suggest probably trying to use a PC(porter cable) It is a car polisher, with the least abrasive polish to start. Or by hand trying out some 1Z hand polishes by Einszett. (This product can only be ordered online)Be prepared though it is a lot of work by hand to get swirls out. Most often you can not get rid of them totally by hand polishing, but just reduce them. I also hear poorboysworld polishes work as well.

Don't you just love dealerships now? Mine keeps trying to wash my car when I bring it in for service. I have told them to leave it alone. You wash it you die!

Autopia is excellent...if you click on the Learn link at the top you will go to www.bettercarcare.com which has lots of tutorials from David B, the mayor of Autopia.

Another good site is www.detailcity.com (soon to be detailcity.org). Dwayne from Premium Auto Care/ 4* Products runs it and Poorboy's is a big supporter.

People at both sites are very willing to help answer questions and there are tons of good threads on detailing questions.

You can try removing the swirls by hand however Ikhandi is right a Porter Cable (PC to those of us who are obsessed) will really help. I would recommend buying several polishes with different abrasive levels. The rule of thumb is to start with the gentlest product & pad/applicator and move up in abrasiveness only if needed...this way you don't make a small problem worse. I am trying Poorboy's and I know Ikhandi is trying 1Z; both companies make a line of polishes (4 for PB and 3 for 1Z) that have increasing levels of abrasiveness.
